On May 17, 2025 around 5am, officers from the Brunswick Police Department were contacted regarding a female individual experiencing a mental health crisis. The family had located the females vehicle on Homer Wilson Way unoccupied. This area is a secluded area with water and marsh on each side and has hazardous dredge spoils.

Ofc. Debruijn and K-9 Narco responded to the scene and “Narco” was deployed using property of the female found at the scene.

K-9 Narco tracked the scent onto Andrew’s Island near a dredge spoil site and had to be stopped due to the swampy and potential hazardous conditions for him to continue. The female was then spotted using visual aids in the dredge spoil disposal site a short distance away from where K-9 Narco was stopped.

The female was seated near the middle of the disposal site.

Rescue personnel and officers were able to safely bring the female back where she was able to get proper care and the support she needs.

This incident highlights the importance of our K9 partners as a valuable resource who save lives and avoid potentially tragic outcomes.
