Congratulations to the Brunswick Downtown Development Authority aka Historic Downtown Brunswick on maintaining its designation as a Georgia Exceptional Main Street (GEMS) community!💎

Since 2017, Downtown Brunswick has been recognized for its commitment to historic preservation, economic development, and community engagement. As one of only 22 GEMS communities in Georgia, this designation reflects the hard work and dedication of everyone who helps make downtown Brunswick a great place to live, work, and play! 💙

Georgia Exceptional Main Street communities, better known as GEMS, represent downtowns that have demonstrated strong impact through local leadership, community investment, historic preservation, economic development, and the Main Street Approach. 💎

These communities are setting the standard for what downtown revitalization can look like across Georgia — from thriving small businesses and beautiful public spaces to creative events, preservation projects, and strong local partnerships.

Current GEMS communities include:
⭐️Acworth, ⭐️Athens, ⭐️Bainbridge, ⭐️Brunswick, ⭐️Canton, ⭐️Cartersville, ⭐️Dahlonega, ⭐️Gainesville, ⭐️Greensboro, ⭐️Hartwell, ⭐️Macon, ⭐️Madison, ⭐️Milledgeville, ⭐️Monroe, ⭐️Moultrie, ⭐️Newnan, ⭐️Rome, Statesboro, ⭐️Suwanee, ⭐️Thomasville, ⭐️Tifton, and ⭐️Toccoa.

Nineteen residents have now received free will-planning assistance through two Free Wills Clinic sessions hosted by Commissioner Dr. Gwen Atkinson-Williams, the City of Brunswick Housing Department, and the Georgia Legal Services Program.

The second clinic, held on June 5, provided qualifying residents with essential estate-planning documents, including simple wills, financial powers of attorney, and advance directives for healthcare, at no cost.

Thank you to the Georgia Legal Services Program attorneys and everyone who helped make these clinics possible. We are grateful to all who participated and look forward to providing more valuable resources for our community in the future.

From friendly competitions with Glynn County Public Works and team-building events to community service projects, the week was filled with fun, camaraderie, and appreciation for the hard work our Public Works team performs year-round.
