Glynn County and the City of Brunswick are preparing a new Community Development Block Grant โ€“ Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) application to fund drainage improvements in Phases III and IV of the College Park basin.

Phases I and II were completed through the first grant award, and now we are working to secure funding for additional improvements in the remaining areas.

If you live in one of the highlighted areas and have experienced flooding or drainage issues during heavy rain, we want to hear from you.

Residents are encouraged to share photos, videos or written testimonials showing past flooding or heavy rain impacts. Your experiences can help demonstrate the need for these improvements and strengthen the grant application.

Submissions can be sent to Grants Manager Monica Hardin at [email protected] by October 1, 2026.

Your experience can make a meaningful difference.

Have you heard of the Aqua Eye? ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ

Glynn County EMA trained with this underwater search and detection device today at Summer Waves. Aqua Eye uses sonar technology to help locate objects beneath the surface when visibility is limited.

Itโ€™s one more tool EMA uses to stay prepared for waterโ€‘related emergencies.

Great progress continues at Coast Guard Beach Park! The project remains on track for completion in early November, well ahead of the original January 31, 2027 timeline.

Landscaping will begin this month, along with the installation of door locks, patio features and new hammocks. With major construction largely complete, crews are now focused on the finishing touches as the project enters its final phase.

The project has been in the works since 2017, with the goal of creating a safer, more accessible and resilient Coast Guard Beach Park.

Improvements include expanded parking, strengthened drainage, restored dune habitat, a new restroom facility, and a three-story lifeguard tower. Visitors will also see improved ADA access, safer pedestrian pathways, enhanced beach access, and better access for emergency responders.

The approximately $7.4 million project is a collaboration between Glynn County and the Golden Isles Convention & Visitors Bureau, and is supported by a $1 million DNR Lifesaving Tower grant, a $3 million Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Program grant and $3.4 million in Capital Projects funding.

Thank you for your continued patience and support as we move closer to completing these improvements at Coast Guard Beach Park.

Georgia Power will begin utility work along Sea Island Road near Black Banks Drive starting at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 16. This work involves soil borings needed to support Georgia Powerโ€™s reconstruction of transmission lines and other future utility improvements.

Work will take place Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. During this period, the roadway may be reduced to one lane at times, with flaggers directing traffic through the work zone.

These hours were set to limit traffic impacts as much as possible, and Georgia Power has indicated that daytime operations are required for safety.

Travelers should expect delays and follow all posted road safety signage. Work is expected to continue for approximately three weeks and conclude on October 7, 2026.

Motorists and pedestrians are asked to slow down, follow posted signage, allow additional travel time, and use caution when traveling through the area.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation while this work is underway.

In April, Glynn County celebrated the topping out of the new Glynn County Fire Rescue Station 5 at Brunswick Golden Isles Airport (BQK). This dedicated Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) station is a key investment in aviation safety at BQK.

It will give firefighters the proximity and specialized equipment needed to protect travelers, airport staff, and the surrounding community.

Construction has continued steadily since that milestone. Inside the building, crews are finishing drywall in the living quarters, installing the acoustical ceiling tile grid, and completing electrical and mechanical work.

They have also finished overhead electrical rough-in, set the panel boards, and assembled the ductwork in the apparatus bay.

Exterior work is moving forward with stucco installation on both the apparatus bay and the living quarters. Crews have also started installing storefront windows.

Site work continues with concrete poured for the dumpster, generator, and transformer pads. The forms for the north and south apparatus bay aprons are complete, and two of the four apron pours are finished. The ground under the apron has been tested and approved.

Upcoming milestones include finishing stucco installation, starting precast stone installation, and completing the remaining flatwork.
