Lake Brownwood Lake Patrol The goal of this page is to provide information about Lake Brownwood, activities, and water hazards.

Mission Statement:

To protect and serve the residents and visitors of the Lake Brownwood community and surrounding areas, thereby decreasing crime and the perception of crime, while increasing the public's safety. This is accomplished by providing our lake community with effective and well trained law enforcement officers for community policing.

Public Service Announcement

All current and future fishing tournament permit applications submitted by West Texas Bass Anglers and/or Mark Cardwell will be denied for a minimum period of one (1) year. This action is due to a disregard for the established rules and regulations governing tournament permits set forth by the Brown County Water Improvement District (BCWID).

All individuals and organizations planning to host a fishing tournament must obtain an approved permit from BCWID prior to the event.

Failure to comply with these rules and regulations may result in additional penalties.

We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring all events are conducted in accordance with district guidelines.

As a reminder we will be closing the boat ramp at the dam on Saturday March 28 and Sunday March 29 from 5:30 AM until 8:00 AM for the contestants for the MLF Tournament to launch. In addition we will also close the boat ramp at the dam in the afternoon on those days from 3:00 PM until 4:30 PM to allow the contestants to get off the water. If you have any questions please contact Lake Patrol at (325) 784-5532. All other boat ramps around the lake will remain open.

Fishing report for 1/22/26

GOOD. Water stained; 54 degrees; 3.04 feet below pool. Black bass to 9.34 pounds are good on shallow crankbaits on the rocks and docks and Alabama rigs around main lake pockets and points suspended. Crappie are good to 12 inches on minnows, or white and chartreuse or shad colored jigs on the main lake scattered brush piles in 11 feet and shooting jigs under docks in 18-22 feet. White bass are good to 1.5 pounds on crankbaits scattered around the main lake. Catfish are slow on minnows and on jug lines with cut shad or perch in the Main lake docks and drains.

Fishing report for December 4, 2025:

GOOD. Water stained; 65 degrees; 2.42 feet below pool. Black bass to 8 pounds are good in 13-28 feet of water on Alabama rigs and scope minnows, or along the shoreline on bladed jigs, crankbaits and jigs in 3-8 feet of water. The bite in the major creeks is starting to pick up on jigs and spinnerbaits. Crappie are excellent to 12 inches on minnows and jigs on the main lake scattered brush piles in 10-15 feet of water. White bass are slow to 1.50 pounds out of the lights at night. Catfish are fair on jug lines with cut shad or perch.

November 13 fishing update from Texas Parks and Wildlife.

EXCELLENT. Water stained; 67 degrees; 2.62 feet below pool. Black bass to 9.25 pounds are excellent in 13-28 feet of water on imitation minnows, craws in juicebox in the rivers, and green pumpkin tornado worms in the shoreline grass. Some catches in the brush in 3-8 feet of water on a soft plastic that mimics baitfish during the spawn, crankbaits and jigs. Crappie are good with catches up to 14 inches on minnows and jigs on main lake scattered brush piles in 8-18 feet. White bass are slow to 1.25 pounds on crappie jigs and crankbaits out of the lights at night. Catfish are slow on jug lines with cut shad, or perch.

October 16 Fishing Update from Texas Parks and Wildlife.

GOOD. Water stained; 74 degrees; 2.03 feet below pool. Black bass to 7.69 pounds are good in 3-8 feet of water on topwater frogs in the shoreline grass with some fish on flukes, chatterbaits, crankbaits and jigs in the brush 5-12 feet. Crappie are excellent to 13 inches on minnows and jigs on the main lake scattered brush piles in 10-20 feet of water. White bass are slow to 1.50 pounds on crappie jigs and crankbaits out of the lights at night and schooling action in the open water of the main lake. Catfish are good on jug lines with cut shad or perch on the main lake flats and drains 10- 25 feet of water.

PSA: The dumpsters at the Public Boat ramp are for lake traffic only. These dumpsters are provided by the Water District for people spending the day on the lake, not for the residents around the lake.
