FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Officials for the Town of Brownville are pleased to announce that they have been
awarded a Safety Grant by the Maine Municipal Association Workers Compensation
Fund in the amount of $2,724.00.

The Ed MacDonald Safety Grants and Scholarship provide financial assistance to members of the MMA Workers Compensation Fund to purchase safety equipment or services to assist in reducing the frequency and severity of workplace injuries. The grant
programs are designed to prevent injuries and improve workplace safety for our Maine employees. The reduction in employee injuries also benefits the taxpayers by lessening lost hours at work, cost of claims and potential overtime expenses for employees who
might have to fill in for injured co-workers.

The Maine Municipal Association has been awarding Safety Grants to members of the Workers’ Compensation fund since 1999. The Ed MacDonald Safety Grants and Scholarships are an example of a successful partnership that has been preventing workplace injuries by bestowing more than $7.1 million in the funding of 4,692 Safety
Grants and 581 Scholarship. Together we are building safe communities.

⚠️ THIS IS HOW HOUSE FIRES START — QUIETLY. ⚠️

At first glance, this may look normal.

But look closer:
❌ Multiple plugs crowded into one outlet
❌ Loose or overloaded connection
❌ Possible overheating risk behind the wall

What many people don’t realize is that overloaded outlets and poor plug connections can generate heat over time — even without sparks or flames visible.

🔥 Heat buildup inside an outlet can:
• Melt insulation
• Damage wiring
• Ignite nearby materials
• Start an electrical fire while people are asleep

🚨 WARNING SIGNS:
⚡ Warm or hot outlets
⚡ Burning smell
⚡ Flickering lights
⚡ Loose plugs
⚡ Buzzing sounds
⚡ Discoloration around outlets

✅ FIRE SAFETY TIPS:
• Avoid overloading outlets
• Do not force multiple adapters into one socket
• Use certified electrical devices
• Unplug unused appliances
• Replace damaged cords immediately
• Have faulty wiring checked by a licensed electrician

Remember:
Electrical fires often start silently behind walls before flames become visible.

Don’t wait for smoke before taking action.

🔥 Prevention is cheaper than recovery.

⚠️ YOUR PHONE CHARGER MIGHT BE DOING THIS DANGEROUS MISTAKE RIGHT NOW

A phone charger may look harmless, but overheating batteries, damaged cables, low-quality chargers, and poor charging habits can increase the risk of fire.

Charging your phone on beds, pillows, sofas, or under blankets can trap heat and prevent proper ventilation. Over time, excessive heat may damage the battery and in rare cases lead to smoke, fire, or battery failure.

To reduce the risk:
✔ Use original or certified chargers
✔ Charge on hard, flat surfaces
✔ Keep chargers ventilated
✔ Replace damaged cables immediately
✔ Avoid charging unattended for long periods
✔ Unplug chargers when not in use

If you notice:
⚠️ Excessive heat
⚠️ Swelling battery
⚠️ Burning smell
⚠️ Smoke or sparks

Stop using the device immediately and move away from flammable materials if safe to do so.

A few safe charging habits can help protect your home, your device, and your family.
