Cameron County Economic Development was honored to join an incredible team in hosting the Consultant Summit, August 25-26, 2026. The first time the event is held in the Rio Grande Valley.

📢 A big shout-out to Team Texas, Port of Brownsville, TX, OmniTRAX Inc., AEP Texas, Rio South Texas Region COSTEP , and - of course - the 10 site-selection consultants who made the trip to share their insights and perspectives. Thank you also to all our Economic Development colleagues from across Texas for joining us.

Our visitors gained a deeper understanding of the tremendous opportunities our region has to offer—and a renewed appreciation for why South Texas is such a great place to invest, grow, and do business. From LNG projects powering communities around the world and SpaceX pushing the boundaries of space exploration, to Saronic Technologies pioneering the future of shipbuilding right here at home, the momentum is undeniable. Today is the last day to apply for the latest Startup Texas Accelerator cohort!

70 founders have started an application, but only 20 have submitted. If your application is still in draft, make sure to complete and submit it by the end of the day on August 10.

This is the final Startup Texas Accelerator cohort funded through Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation’s EDA grant. Programming is valued at more than $200,000 and includes a full year of incubation at the eBridge Center.

Selected founders will also participate in weekly mentorship with the UTRGV Entrepreneurship and Commercialization Center on Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., leading up to Demo Day on December 10.

📢 Cameron County welcomes Saronic Technologies, as project Port Alpha was announced today in a joint press conference with Governor Abbott in Austin, Texas.
"For Cameron County this project is expected to generate more that $160 billion in regional impact. One of the largest Economic Development projects in modern Texas history," stated Dino Mavrookas the co-founder and CEO of Saronic Technologies. "With Port Alpha, we are committed to creating 10,000 high-quality Direct Jobs over the next decade. From skilled trades people to robotics engineers and naval architects," continued Mavrookas.

Last week, Cameron County Economic Development was proud to partner with Gobierno del Estado de Tamaulipas to promote Cameron County International Bridge System and our six modes of transportation at The Logistics World Summit & Expo in Mexico City. These types of efforts reflect our commitment to advance logistics, manufacturing, and global trade in our region.
