When visitors from Australia (and New Zealand) come to Tina Turner’s hometown, you know the Nutbush is going to break out eventually! 🇦🇺💃

And what better place for a quick dance lesson than the porch of Tina’s childhood schoolhouse? The group even made sure their driver learned the steps before they left. 😂

The Nutbush really does bring people together from all over the world. ❤️

LABOR DAY HOURS

The West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center—including the Tina Turner Museum at Flagg Grove School and the Sleepy John Estes Home—will close at 1 p.m. on Monday, September 7, for Labor Day.

If you’re planning a visit, please arrive early so you’ll have plenty of time to explore. We will reopen Tuesday, September 8, at 9 a.m. with regular hours.

Tybric has a natural gift for hospitality. His patience, kindness, and attentiveness are especially appreciated by our younger guests and older travelers, who often benefit from his thoughtful care and willingness to go the extra mile.

Today, Tennessee and the world lost one of its brightest lights.

Dolly Parton never forgot the people, stories and humble beginnings that shaped her. Through her music, generosity and love for her Tennessee home, she showed us that our roots do not limit how far we can go, they give us something meaningful to carry with us.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Dolly’s family, friends and all who loved her.

Thank you, Dolly, for the music, the laughter and the light. Tennessee will always be proud to call you one of our own.

Thanks Tennessee State Museum for the shout out. This is a great old photo of the Hatchie River.

In Haywood County, the West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center and Tina Turner Museum preserves and interprets the natural history of Brownsville, as well as its unique musical heritage. Visitors can explore the school that legendary singer Tina Turner attended during her youth or the home of celebrated blues musician, “Sleepy” John Estes.

On crisp spring mornings, hunters pursue wary wild turkeys. Using a variety of crafted calls to mimic the clucks, yelps and purrs of hen turkeys, hunters attempt to lure the male turkey, the gobbler, into gun range. This box call is made from wood found in the Hatchie forests. Authentic tones are easily created when the thin lid is scraped across the top of the box.

From bubbles and backyard games to live music and smiling faces, Summer Jamz Fun Fest filled the West TN Delta Heritage Center with laughter all weekend long.

There’s nothing better than seeing our grounds come alive with families making memories together. Thank you to everyone who joined us, along with our musicians, vendors, volunteers, and community partners who helped make the day such a success.

The West TN Delta Heritage Center is more than a museum, it’s a place where history, music, culture, and community come together.
