Gladys Porter High School, Brownsville Independent School District's 2nd public high school, opened its doors in 1974. It was built to alleviate the over-crowded conditions which had existed at Brownsville High School, now Homer Hanna High School, for three years. Even before the construction

began, the school's colors and mascot were chosen at a board meeting on October 2, 1973. The school was named for Gladys Sams Porter (1910-March 16, 1980), the daughter of Earl C. Sams, who was the first president of the J.C. Penney retail chain and Lula A. Porter was a well-known Brownsville civic leader and philanthropist. It is a magnet school for Technology and Engineering. Tony Ortiz was selected the school's first principal. Disclaimer:

Porter Family,

It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Eduardo Noriega, a beloved teacher/counselor. Mr. Noriega touched the lives of countless students with his kindness, compassion, and dedication. Our thoughts are with Mr. Noriega's family and friends during this difficult time.

At the moment, we don't have funeral services information. As soon as that information becomes available, we will update this post.

Location: Del Angel Funeral Home, 125 Mc Davitt Blvd, Brownsville, TX 78521
Time: Visitation services will be Monday, February 3rd. Funeral services at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 4th.

Jonathan, a beloved member of our class of 2003, was the son of our cherished high school teacher, Mrs. Higgonbotham. Mother and son are now reunited. City of Brownsville has designated three locations residents may fill their own sandbags; residents must bring their own shovels. Below are the three designated locations where sand piles and empty sandbags will be available starting at 3:30pm today:

In order to receive credit or a final grade for a class, a student is required to attend class 90% of the days class is offered regardless of whether the student’s absences are excused or unexcused In order to maintain credit, a student may not exceed 8 absences the 1st semester.

Dear parents, students, friends, and fans of Porter High School School SOCCER SEASON starts this upcoming Monday, November 28,20216. Parents if your son/daughter, students if you and/or your friends are interested joining GILS or BOYS SOCCER this 2016-17 season, all you need is a PHYSICAL and a POSITIVE attitude.

Frequently asked questions:

QUESTION
1. Can I still join soccer even though i was not in soccer class?
ANSWER
Yes. You do not have to be in soccer class in order for you to join soccer.

2. Is there a sequence of sports that I have to play? Ex if i play volleyball y must play basketball, then softball.
ANSWER
There is NO sequence of the sports that you must play, you are free to choose which sports you wish to play.

QUESTION
3.If I have Cosmetology classes or medical classes that we must travel to different campuses can we still play?
ANSWER
Yes. Please talk to coach to make arrangements.
