This rings true.
A descendant of the Conwell’s visited yesterday along with her childhood friend - they both grew up together in the house as the upstairs was rented out to another family.
I loved hearing their stories - I hope they will return soon.

This map shows what counties were in Pennsylvania, and the path of the American Revolution Patriots who marched to join George Washington. Somerset County was not formed until 1795, and it was a part of the area shown as Bedford county in 1771. The earlier counties of Lancaster, Berks and York are where most of the ancestors came from of those now living in the area of Bedford County. This map by Charles Stoner shows us how much land was Indian territory and why there was so much back country fighting between the Native Americans , and The American Pioneers. The word "pioneer" originates with the Middle French pionnier (originally, a foot soldier, or soldier involved in digging trenches), from the same root as peon or pawn. In the English language, the term independently evolved a sense of being an innovator or trailblazer. It is easy to get stuck researching this fascinating time period of American History when the Western Pennsylvania Forest was a bloody battleground , and a strategic war of conquest.

In 1776 the Conwell brothers entered the Continental army and fought through the Revolutionary War. Thank you to all the veterans ! Freedom isn’t free !! 🇺🇸

Hope everyone is keeping warm as the weather turns colder. Makes one think of the hardships the pioneers went through, while today we just turn up a thermostat !
