This week, we proudly recognize and celebrate EMS Week here at Haywood County EMS.
Emergency Medical Services is far more than ambulances and flashing lights. EMS is the calm in chaos, the hand held during someone’s worst moment, the lifesaving care delivered in living rooms, highways, factories, schools, and everywhere in between. EMS providers are trained medical professionals who respond 24/7 to emergencies ranging from heart attacks and strokes to trauma, respiratory distress, critical care transports, and everything in between.
EMS officially began to take shape in the United States in 1966 following the landmark report “Accidental Death and Disability: The Neglected Disease of Modern Society.” That report exposed major gaps in emergency care and ultimately helped create the modern EMS systems we know today. Since then, EMS has evolved into an essential part of healthcare and public safety across this country.
Here at Haywood County EMS, we are blessed with a team that shows up every single day and night ready to serve this community. Whether it’s a routine transport, a major accident, a cardiac arrest, or simply being there for someone scared and hurting — our crews answer the call without hesitation.
During EMS Week, our personnel are recognized and appreciated, and rightfully so. But truthfully, they deserve that appreciation every week of the year. The dedication, sacrifice, missed holidays, long nights, and commitment to this county often happen quietly behind the scenes.
To all EMS professionals everywhere — thank you for what you do. And to our Haywood County EMS family, thank you for continuing to serve with professionalism, compassion, and pride.
