Our community garden has been planted!

Thank you to Charter Township of Brownstown Government for giving us the plot in the community garden, as well as members Al Cotto, Bill Consiglio and Tom Lassen for purchasing the plants and getting them planted today!!

All of the vegetables we grow as well as well as many excess veggie donations from other gardeners are provided throughout the summer to the Downriver Fish & Loaves organization.

By the end of summer, we usually provide them with 20 to 40 pounds of fresh vegetables that can be added to the Fish & Loaves pantry selections for families who do not have regular access to fresh produce.

One of our BEST events of the year!! Our 5th Annual Essay Contest was held Friday night in Brownstown!! As usual, the 4th grade students wrote the BEST essays about an organization near and dear to their heart that they would donate $100 to.

Our club provides the donations for the child to present to the organization.

A few of the organizations include St. Jude’s Hospital, Forgotten Harvest, Save the Children, and Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.

Teachers, principals, parents and family members come to support the students!

A great time was had by all!!

Kids Need Kiwanis and Kiwanis needs YOU!!

If you’d like to be involved in this type of community project, please reach out to me. We would love to have you as part of our Kiwanis Club.

Here are a few more photos from this week's Cereal Drive Project at our weekly club meeting!

We hosted five of our local pantries and distributed over 1,100 boxes of cereal and other breakfast foods to them and ones who was not able to attend.

Special thanks to Magdalena Kadlitz and Andrew Gregoire (Pres/CEO) of corporate member Community Focus Credit Union who sponsored this service project.

Also great job to project co-chairs Pete Michel and Tom Lassen for their leadership and coordination of this worthwhile project!

DWK had a VERY busy weekend!!!!

On Saturday, we had a very successful Cereal Drive at the Kroger store at West and Telegraph!

On Sunday, we participated in Brownstown Parks & Recreation's Sensory Friendly Easter Bunny visit at the Event Center on King Road. Mr. and Mrs. Bunny were on hand to greet the children!

On Monday evening, all of the boxes of cereal that we collected at various drop-off locations and at Kroger on Saturday were brought together and distributed among numerous food pantries, church pantries, and soup kitchens throughout the Downriver area.

A huge thank you to Community Focus Federal Credit Union for sponsoring our cereal drive with funding and volunteers! We appreciate our corporate members that are willing to jump in with funds and warm bodies to make every project we tackle a success!

Our club members love being busy when we are serving the children of our communities!

Thanks to everyone who participated by donating a box of cereal on Saturday at Kroger, or helping out at the Easter Bunny visit on Sunday, or helping us box up and distribute all of the cereal on Monday!!

You are all leaders and have

We had a very successful 3rd Monday Project last night.

We packed 100 hygiene bags with our community partners The Clean Love Project and Advantage One Credit Union!!

We want to thank AOCU for sponsoring our event and for CLP founder Lacey Caterino and her mom and son for being there to remind us of the importance of this project!!

Huge thanks to all of the DWK members, spouses and guests for showing up to help us help our struggling, homeless and income challenged women and young girls who don’t have the basic daily supplies to survive.

Another huge thanks to Corianne Jager and the Success Virtual Learning Center in Taylor for providing our meeting place!

And last but certainly NOT least, a HUGE thanks to our community service chair Tom Lassen and his awesome wife Marlene, who coordinated this project, organized all of the supplies and continue to lead and serve their community with love and compassion!!

We love partnering with The Clean Love Project to assist in preparing hygiene kits for women and young girls in need!

Our project is also being sponsored by Advantage One Credit Union who is also a corporate member of our club!! Lindsay and her team will be volunteering on the 16th to help us assemble the kits and Lacey Catarino with CLP will be on hand to help us with distribution!! This is a community effort and we couldn't be prouder to be hosting this worthwhile project!!
