They did it. 🚒🔥

After 22 weeks of fire and EMS training, West Central Recruit Class 26-16 wrapped up their academy with one final test; a full 24-hour shift simulation here at Brownsburg Fire Territory.

During those 24 hours, the recruits handled 18 mock emergency calls, including three live fires and two car wrecks. They lived in the stations, worked as crews, and got a taste of what life on shift is really like.

We’re especially proud of the members of Class 26-16 who will now be joining BFT. They’ve worked hard to get here, and now the real learning begins.

We also want to recognize our own Chief Jason Cahill, Chief Zach Bowers, and Captain Jason Stumm for the countless hours they spent teaching, coaching, and preparing these recruits for the job. That kind of commitment does not go unnoticed.

Congratulations to Class 26-16 on finishing recruit academy.

Brownsburg Fire Territory to Host 24-Hour Recruit Training Simulation.

September 2nd, 2026, at 7:00 a.m. through September 3rd, 2026, at 7:00 a.m.

Brownsburg Fire Territory will host a 24-hour shift simulation for members of West Central Recruit Class 26-16.

For a full 24 hours, recruits will live and operate out of BFT Stations 131 and 133, giving them the opportunity to experience what a real shift in the fire service is like.

Throughout the simulation, recruits will respond to a variety of realistic training scenarios, including emergency medical calls, motor vehicle crashes, specialty rescue incidents, and fire responses. These scenarios are designed to challenge the recruits and reinforce the skills they have learned throughout the academy.

Training will take place at the BFT Training Facility as well as several designated locations throughout the Town of Brownsburg. Residents may notice an increased presence of fire apparatus from Brownsburg, Plainfield Fire Territory, Wayne Township Fire Department Indianapolis, and Speedway Fire Department during the 24-hour period.

ALL APPARATUS RESPONDING TO TRAINING SCENARIOS WILL TRAVEL NON-EMERGENT, WITHOUT EMERGENCY LIGHTS OR SIRENS.

This simulation is one of the final opportunities for recruits to bring together months of training and apply their knowledge in realistic, real-world-style situations. It also introduces them to an important part of the fire service; living, working, training, eating, and responding together as a team.

BFT is proud to host this training and grateful for the continued partnership of Plainfield, Wayne Township, Speedway, Danville Fire Department and Hendricks County 911 in helping prepare the Class of 26-16.

BFT crews were honored to receive a generous popcorn donation through Trail's End's Heroes and Helpers program.

We also got to hang out with some pretty cool scouts (future firefighters?)!

A huge thank you to the Scouts and Trail's End for thinking of our crews and for the delicious popcorn. We truly appreciate the support!

✅Must own your home (we cannot do rentals)
✅Must be a single family residence
✅We can only provide a limited number of alarms due to demand

Brownsburg Fire Territory is partnering with the Hendricks County Health Department, Hendricks County Emergency Management Agency, and Red Cross of Indiana for a "Smoke Alarm Blitz" on Saturday, September 19th. We will be installing and/or replacing smoke alarms in BFT's response area. Have a smoke alarm, but need the battery replaced? We can do that too! Hendricks EMA will be giving out free weather radios as well!

🚒 Retirees Breakfast 🚒

This morning, Brownsburg Fire Territory had the privilege of hosting a Retirees Breakfast, welcoming back 13 of our retired members.

It was a morning filled with breakfast, stories, plenty of laughs, and the chance to catch up with those who helped shape BFT into what it is today.

The fire service is more than a career It’s a family. Retirement may mean hanging up the gear, but the friendships and memories never go away.

Thank you to everyone who joined us this morning. It was great having you back around the table! 🚒

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - FEEL GOOD POST

At last night’s Brownsburg Town Council meeting, Brownsburg Fire Territory and the Town of Brownsburg welcomed Mr. Gary Shultz. Mr. Shultz recently experienced a medical emergency that resulted in cardiac arrest.

In those first few moments, several people stepped up and their actions made all the difference.

Brownsburg citizens Howard Stermer, Dr. Ashwani Sharma, Kristin Burton, and Malorie Ward stopped to help a stranger in need. Brownsburg Police Department Officers Heather Foote and Eustace Mlagan quickly recognized the need for an AED and took action. Hendricks Regional Health Dr. Jim Nossett provided assistance and direction. BFT firefighters and paramedics continued with advanced care life support.

Each person became a link in a chain that gave Mr. Shultz the best chance at survival.

Last night, that story came full circle.

Mr. Shultz stood before the Town Council and personally presented lifesaving awards to the people who helped save his life.

There are few recognitions more meaningful than receiving an award from the person whose life you helped save.

The evening was more than an awards presentation. It was a reminder that early CPR, quick access to an AED, and people willing to step forward when someone needs help can truly save a life.

We are incredibly grateful to see Mr. Shultz doing well, and we are proud of every citizen, police officer, firefighter, paramedic, and medical professional who played a part in giving him another tomorrow.

In this video Brownsburg Fire Territory highlights our Trench and Collapse Rescue Units and the equipment our crews rely on during these types of emergencies.

Lt. Adam Roach walks us through the equipment, explains how it is used, and talks about the training required to safely operate during trench and structural collapse incidents.

These calls may not happen every day, but when they do, our crews have to be ready.

🎉 PROMOTION ANNOUNCEMENT 🎉

Lieutenant Marshall was hired by BFT in 2022 and most recently served on Ladder 131. With his promotion, he will now serve as a Float Lieutenant assigned to A-Shift.

Brownsburg Fire Territory crews are currently on the scene of a residence fire in the 4700 block of County Road 500 East. Please avoid the area as the road is closed due to fire apparatus and hoses.

This past weekend, the B-Shift crew at Station 132 made it a point to have some family time.

Crew members brought in their spouses and children for an evening of food, fun, and fellowship at the firehouse.

The fire service has a unique way of creating a second family. We work together, train together, and depend on one another. That bond extends to the families who support our firefighters every day.

Nights like this are about more than sharing a meal. They’re about building friendships and creating memories that will last for years to come.

Great job, B-Shift 132s, for making family part of the firehouse family!
