On Thursday, September 10, members of the Bracken County School System had the opportunity to participate in Local Accountability Training at NKCES as Kentucky continues to move toward a more locally driven approach to measuring school success.
A key part of this work is developing Local Indicators of Quality—meaningful measures that help schools and communities look beyond state assessment scores to determine whether students are developing the knowledge, skills, and experiences they need for success beyond the classroom.
For Bracken County, this is an exciting opportunity to listen to our students, families, educators, businesses, and community members and ask an important question:
What should a Bracken County student know, be able to do, and demonstrate before graduating from our schools?
Over the coming months, we will be gathering community insight and using that feedback to help identify the qualities and experiences our community values most—including authentic, vibrant learning experiences where students can apply what they learn to real-world situations.
This is not about replacing the Kentucky Academic Standards or state assessments. It is about expanding the picture of student success and making sure that picture reflects the values and hopes of the Bracken County community.
We are excited about the possibilities this work creates for our students and our community—and even more excited about building it together.
