The Florida Forest Service -Withlacoochee Forestry Center and Hernando County Fire Rescue responded to a wildfire that started last night, 6/3/2026, caused by lightning. The wildfire is holding at 6 acres and is now 100% contained.
FFS‑WFC deployed a drone to check for any interior heat, and all heat signatures remain within the previously burned area. Crews will continue to monitor the site until there is no visible smoke or smoldering.
There are no threatened structures and no injuries reported.

🔥Wildfire Activity – Altoona, Lake County🔥

The Florida Forest Service – Withlacoochee Forestry Center is currently on scene of a wildfire near State Road 19 and NF 19-48A in Altoona, Lake County.
The fire is 20 acres in size and 75% contained. A federal helicopter is assisting with water drops to help with containment efforts.
Lake County Fire crews are also on scene to ensure nearby structures remain protected.

Smoke is affecting visibility along State Road 19. Florida Highway Patrol is monitoring the area, and smoke signs will be posted.
Please slow down, turn headlights on, and use caution when driving through the area.

Cause: Lightning.

🔥 Wildfire Update – Pasco Trails, Land O’ Lakes, Pasco County
May 25, 2026 – 10:10 PM
Cause: Lighting
Crews have reached 80% containment on the 15-acre wildfire burning in the swamp area. The Pasco Sheriff's Office helicopter assisted with 36 water bucket drops throughout the day.
There are no smoke impacts to Hwy 52, but nearby neighborhoods may continue to experience smoke tonight. Pasco County Fire Rescue will remain in the area overnight to monitor conditions.
FFS-WFC wildland firefighters will return in the morning.
