Our Florida Sea Grant Agent, Dr. Brittany Scharf, spent the day with Return 'Em Right helping teach anglers on proper catch-and-release techniques for reef fish brought up from deep water.

Did you know fish can experience barotrauma when brought up from deep water? Bulging eyes, protruding stomachs, and bubbly scales are just a few signs anglers should watch for. Sustainable Fisheries Manager Nick Haddad has been out in the community teaching anglers how to recognize barotrauma and safely return fish to depth using simple techniques like venting and descending gear.

What’s the catch? Visit Returnemright.org to learn more! Take the free course to learn about barotrauma, proper venting techniques, and how to use descending gear to help reef fish survive and fight another day.

Embrace the increasing sunshine with fabulous May flowers like zinnia, impatiens, and marigold. There’s nothing like flower beds outside the window or fresh cut blooms from the garden.
