Internationally Accredited, Full Service Fire Department for the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation & Beyond YDFD has since evolved into a state-of-the-art fire station.

Yocha Dehe Fire Department (YDFD) plays a vital role in emergency response and life safety throughout the Capay Valley and Yolo County by providing fire protection, technical rescue and paramedic emergency services. YDFD proudly serves as a community partner through mutual aid agreements with other fire departments to protect the citizens and land in Yolo County. When it was formed in 2004, the mi

ssion was clear: build a department for the entire community designed to work hand-in-hand with existing resources to provide the best fire and emergency services possible. Today, the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation is proud that YDFD is the only Native American fire department to achieve accreditation from the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) and will continue to invest in resources that protect our people, our land and our greater community.

We're at the peak of fire season, and our crews have been busy with deployments. One of our teams just returned home, and we couldn't be prouder of their dedication, hard work, and commitment to protecting our communities.

As we continue through fire season, please do your part to help prevent wildfires. Follow fire safety guidelines, be mindful of local restrictions, and do everything you can to avoid accidentally starting a fire.

To our crews and everyone working on the front lines—thank you, and stay safe out there.

Nearly a month has passed since our seventh annual Fire Youth Academy, and we're grateful for our dedicated firefighters who continue to invest in the next generation. Special thanks to Cole and John for making such a meaningful impact!

If you've ever wondered what the Fire Youth Academy is all about, here's a behind-the-scenes look. This recap features coverage and interviews that highlight the academy's impact and the experiences of the young people who participated.

We weren’t kidding when we said we push these cadets to their limits. This week was filled with challenges designed to build strength, resilience, and teamwork—from demanding hikes to intense stretching sessions and everything in between.

Yesterday , our cadets participated in a 9/11 Stair Climb, honoring the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others. It was a powerful reminder of the courage, dedication, and selflessness that define the fire service.

None of this would have been possible without the incredible support of yochadehewn and Cache Creek Casino Resort. Their generous contributions and continued support in providing meals helped ensure our cadets had the resources they needed to succeed throughout the week.

*Big shoutout to The Ravine On Sixteen for supporting our pizza day on Friday🍕 That's a lot of pizza to keep our cadets fed and happy. We appreciate your support!

Day 3 and these cadets are crushing it! 💥
Whether they're tackling hikes, learning line-cutting techniques, practicing CPR, or developing valuable life and leadership skills, they've been working hard and rising to every challenge. Their determination, teamwork, and positive attitude have been incredible to watch.
We are so proud of how far they've come in just three days and can't wait to see what they accomplish next! 💪🔥

Today we welcomed the second group to the Youth Fire Academy, and we are excited to have them with us! Throughout the day, recruits learned the fundamentals of the fire service and station etiquette. They also learned the importance of maintaining a clean workspace, as taking pride in the station is a key part of fire service culture. To wrap up the day, the recruits participated in a classic bucket brigade, where they worked together as a team to move water down the line, reinforcing communication, coordination, and teamwork skills while having fun.

Shoutout to Cache Creek Casino Resort and Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation for their generous support in donating lunches for the cadets.

Congratulations, Week 1 Cadets!
We are incredibly proud of each and every one of you. Despite challenging weather conditions, you persevered and rose to meet the demands and obstacles of the week with determination and resilience.
Over these five days, you were given opportunities to learn, grow, and develop valuable skills. It was wonderful to see your hard work, teamwork, and dedication throughout the program.
Congratulations to all of our cadets on successfully completing Week 1! We are proud of your accomplishments, and we were delighted to see each of you receive your certificate as recognition of your efforts and achievements. Keep up the great work! 🎉👏🏅

Youth Fire Academy – Day 2 Recap 🚒

Day 2 brought the action and the learning to a whole new level!

We kicked off the day with physical training led by Creed Strength Coach Taylor, who provides preventative fitness training for our department. Coach Taylor spent some time teaching the cadets proper techniques, safe movement practices, and the importance of physical fitness in the fire service.

Later, the cadets got hands-on experience with some essential firefighter skills, including rappelling, extraction techniques, and ropes and knots. These are critical skills that firefighters use throughout their careers, and our students rose to the challenge with enthusiasm and determination.

Day 3 has even more in store, and we can't wait to see what these future firefighters accomplish next!
