Lambda Independent Democrats of Brooklyn—everyone calls us LID—is Brooklyn's largest le***an and gay political organization. Founded by a group of activists in Boerum Hill in early 1978, we have grown to become one of the state's largest LGBT political clubs. For over 35 years, LID has been the political voice of Brooklyn's LGBT community. We have been building relationships with elected officials

, endorsing and supporting LGBT and pro-equality candidates for public office, speaking out against bigotry and violence, fighting for marriage equality, advocating for the rights and services of people living with HIV and AIDS, lobbying elected officials for civil rights, registering voters, educating voters about LGBT issues and about the Brooklyn candidates who either oppose or support our rights, and building a coalition of LGBT, pro-equality and progressive political allies. Today, we have over 3,000 members, supporters and friends, in addition to a core of hard working volunteer board members who keep LID focused on the issues most important to the LGBT residents of Brooklyn. We refuse to allow a hateful administration to scare New York institutions into breaking laws he does not like. Norma Jean Jennings is sworn in as the first out Q***r Black Woman Justice of the New York State Supreme Court alongside her wife, Hon Juliet Howard, recently sworn in as a judge of the Civil Court, Kings County, and their sons. The U.S. Supreme Court will soon hear two cases that will shape the future of transgender people in this country: West Virginia v. B.P.J. and Little v. Hecox.

Tomorrow, Saturday, January 10 at 1pm at Union Square LID is joining PFLAG NYC, The NEW Pride Agenda, and Trans formative Schools and dozens of co-hosting and endorsing organizations to show our city and the world that we are strong, United, and full of love for our community.
