U.S. Army Corps of Engineers North Atlantic Division

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers North Atlantic Division Welcome to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers North Atlantic Division official page. The U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force at more than 60 U.S.

Army Corps of Engineers North Atlantic Division is a robust team executing diverse missions throughout 13 states in the Northeast as well as the D.C. metro area and throughout Europe, Africa and anywhere in the world where we are needed. Headquartered at Fort Hamilton, in Brooklyn, New York, the Division provides engineering, construction, project management and contracting services to plan, desig

n, build, operate and maintain projects to support the military, protect America's water resources, and restore and enhance the environment. The work includes projects for international, federal, state, and local governments and agencies. Missions are executed through six District offices, located in Concord, MA; New York City; Philadelphia; Baltimore; Norfolk, VA; and Wiesbaden, Germany. Our projects improve living conditions and readiness for the U.S. military installations in the Northeast and overseas. The North Atlantic Division offers a wide range of services to its diverse base of Department of Defense stakeholders and executes a robust military construction mission workload valued at $2–3 billion annually. As funded by Congress, we maintain and improve federal navigation channels in Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Norfolk harbors and support the American public with flood risk management and hurricane and storm risk mitigation projects such as dams, levees and floodwalls. When called upon, we work with FEMA on disaster response. We are proud to be the National Planning Center of Expertise for Coastal Storm Risk Management services, and we are continually seeking to develop, maintain and apply the best national and regional expertise in science and engineering to protect our coastlines. We also pride ourselves with being good stewards of the lands and waters at USACE water resources projects. Our natural resources management mission is to manage and conserve natural resources, consistent with the ecosystem management principles, while providing quality public outdoor recreation experiences to serve the needs of present and future generations. Through deeds, not words, we are... BUILDING STRONG!

Today we celebrate our 251st anniversary!

George Washington appointed the first engineer officers of the Army on June 16, 1775, during the American Revolution, and engineers have served in combat in all subsequent American wars. The Army established the Corps of Engineers as a separate, permanent branch on March 16, 1802, and gave the engineers responsibility for founding and operating the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Since then the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has responded to changing defense requirements and played an integral part in the development of the country. Happy birthday to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Army Engineer Regiment, and thank you to all who have contributed to our efforts for the Nation.

If you are near one of our recreation sites, today we are also waiving day use fees at more than 2,800 USACE-operated recreation areas nationwide: https://www.usace.army.mil/Media/News-Releases/News-Release-Article-View/Article/4512066/us-army-corps-of-engineers-waives-day-use-fees-at-recreation-areas-in-observanc/

Great work being done by the 249th Engineer Battalion, USACE Cadre, and our local and federal partners responding to Super Typhoon Sinlaku.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, including over two dozen individuals from the Baltimore District, is continuing its work with local and federal partners to respond to Super Typhoon Sinlaku, which made landfall April 14-18, 2026, unleashing flash flooding and delivering a devastating direct hit to the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands.

Missions range from Emergency Temporary Power, Temporary Roofing (STRONG Roof Program), Debris Management, and Critical Public Facilities assessments.

On May 28, USACE and the U.S. Army 249th Engineer Battalion (Prime Power) delivered temporary grid power on Tinian to ensure the island’s residents and critical facilities receive electricity while permanent power can be restored.

An important New England waterway just got a much-needed dredging.

Our New England District recently completed the Narraguagus River Federal Navigation Project, located in Milbridge, Maine, ahead of schedule and within budget. This $5.6 million project removed enough sediment to fill 45 Olympic-sized swimming pools, restoring safe navigation for commercial fishing, aquaculture, and recreational boating.

Well done, team!
