We had a warm welcome today at the VALOR (Veterans And Loved Ones Resources) gathering in Adrian and talked about our agency programs and services, including our VDC program. Took the opportunity to take a photo with one of our fiercest advocates, WellWise Services Board member and VALOR member, Bob Harvey!

🇺🇸Our Veteran Directed Care (VDC) program offers Veterans the choice and control over supports and services that help them stay safe and independent at home. VDC may be the right program for you if...
• You are a Veteran of any age
• You are enrolled in VA health care
• You want to live in your own home
• You meet the clinical need for VDC
• You are interested in directing your own services

🇺🇸Your Veteran Affairs Medical Center (VAMC):
•Determines if you are eligible for VDC
•Assigns a monthly budget based on the Veteran’s needs and functional limitations
•Refers you to a provider and connects you to community resources

🇺🇸VDC is offered in Hillsdale, Jackson, and Lenawee Counties by WellWise Services Area Agency on Aging who coordinates and provides local services. Contact your VAMC for a referral.

💜Our first “Connection is Protection” Lunch and Learn was a great success! In collaboration with community partners, we came together to share information and resources to fight elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

The most effective way to stop Medicare fraud from happening is to prevent it in the first place.

For situations you can't prevent, learning how to detect potential fraud, errors, and abuse is very important.

If you find something concerning on a Medicare statement or accidentally give out your Medicare information, report it! Don't hide it and don't be ashamed. Scammers are really good at what they do and the SMP is here to help.

It’s Medicare Fraud Prevention Week! This week, everyone can learn about protecting yourself, your friends, and your loved ones from scammers.

Guard your Medicare card. Don’t give your Medicare number to anyone over the phone. Don’t text it. Don’t use it to sign up for “free” offers. Saying no is the best defense against scammers.
