Brooklyn Community Board 9 will be holding a Town Hall on the proposed shelter on May 12, 2026, at 6:30 PM, at M.S. 61 (400 Empire Boulevard, Brooklyn, NY 11225).

Brooklyn Community Board 9 has been informed by the NYC Dept. of Social Service, the city will be placing a temporary shelter sited on Empire Blvd near Bedford Avenue.
• Capacity/population: Single adult men (140 beds)
• Nonprofit service provider: Project Renewal
• Contract Commencement: Summer 2026

If you wish to learn more about the placement or wish to voice your own sentiments, you are welcome to attend. Seating will be first-come, first-served for the public.

Brooklyn Community Board 9 would like to formally thank: Council Member Rita Joseph, Medgar Evers College President Dr. Patricia Ramsey, District 17 Superintendent Shenean Lindsay, D17 Parent Coordinator Mr. Patrick Sykes-Craig and D75 Assistant Principal & CUNY Professor Ms. Yolanda Beaton for joining our Educators’ Town Hall this past Saturday, April 25th.
