We want to extend a big thank you for all the support from the City of Brooklyn and a grant though Norfolk Southern that allowed us to add this new specialized apparatus to our fleet. This custom dual purpose UTV allows our firefighters and paramedics to quickly reach emergencies in off road areas with full firefighting and patient care capabilities.
Our Fire Department recently acquired a 2025 Polaris Crew UTV equipped with firefighting, heavy-duty rescue, and emergency medical response capabilities. This vehicle is designed to tackle challenging and rugged off-road areas like our city parks, the Metroparks and railroad right-of-ways that are difficult to access with our traditional firefighting and EMS vehicles.
The UTV has a 70-gallon water tank with 100 feet of hose to extinguish hard-to-reach vegetation fires. It also features a patient care area, providing essential medical assistance where an ambulance might not be able to navigate. Although the UTV has been in service for a short period of time, it has already been used for a medical call and a hazmat incident.
Thank you to Firefighters Gus Ruggiero and Jon Stefanko for their work on this capital project, along with Captain Dennis Williams, who secured a safety equipment grant from Norfolk Southern, allowing us to purchase the firefighting and EMS equipment associated with this UTV.
