Department of the Army Security Guards and Police Officers assigned to U.S. Army Garrison Fort Hamilton completed annual sustainment marksmanship training at Joint Base McGuire‑Dix‑Lakehurst, New Jersey, May 12, 2026.

The guards qualified with the M17 pistol, the M4 rifle and the M500 shotgun, and conducted live‑fire drills while wearing Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE) protective masks to replicate contaminated‑environment conditions.

The training strengthened the installation’s overall readiness by ensuring security personnel remain proficient, certified and prepared to respond to threats under any conditions. DA Security Guards at Army installations must complete initial basic training and annual weapons‑qualification requirements to maintain mission readiness and installation security. More than 70 service members and first responders take on the Armed Forces and FDNY Murph Challenge at U.S. Army Garrison Fort Hamilton, May 20, 2026. The joint fitness event, coordinated by Fort Hamilton and the Fire Department of New York (FDNY), honors Navy SEAL Lt. Michael P. Murphy and demonstrates the installation’s ongoing commitment to warfighter readiness.

Participants from FDNY, U.S. Army Garrison Fort Hamilton, the NYC Recruiting Battalion, the New York National Guard’s Joint Task Force Empire Shield, and Marines from the 1st Marine Corps District run a one‑mile course, complete 100 pull‑ups, 200 push‑ups, 300 squats, and finish with a final one‑mile run, many wearing weighted vests.

The challenge builds individual and collective readiness, strengthens deployability and lethality through sustained physical fitness, and highlights Fort Hamilton’s role in delivering essential base operations services, resilient infrastructure, and Soldier and Family support that keep the force mission‑ready at home and downrange.(U.S. Army photo by Mark Getman- Fort Hamilton Public Affairs Office)
