An elderly man sat quietly on a park bench, holding an old military medal.

A young boy noticed it and asked, “Sir, were you a soldier?”

The man smiled.

“Yes, many years ago.”

“Did you save someone?”

The old soldier looked at the medal and became silent.

Finally, he said, “I couldn't save my best friend.”

The boy looked confused.

“Then why did they give you the medal?”

The old soldier wiped a tear from his eye.

“Because I carried him home when everyone else had left.”

Private Michael had spent his birthday alone at a distant military base.

His family couldn't call because of communication restrictions.

That evening, he sat quietly outside his tent, looking at an old photograph of his mother.

Suddenly, his commander called him inside.

Before leaving for deployment, Lieutenant Ryan's eight-year-old daughter gave him a small red scarf.

Ryan smiled. “Soldiers aren't scared.”

She looked into his eyes and whispered, “Then wear it for me.”

Months later, during a dangerous mission, Ryan was injured. While being carried to safety, another soldier noticed the red scarf around his neck.

“What is that?”

Ryan smiled weakly.

“My daughter's courage.”

He survived and returned home months later.

One was for herself.

The other was for her son, Captain James.

He had been serving overseas for nearly three years.

Neighbors often asked, “Why do you still make his tea?”

She always smiled and replied, “Because soldiers can be far away, but they are never far from a mother's heart.”

The next morning, his unit received terrible news. Daniel had died during a rescue mission.
