On Sunday (5/24), Brooklyn Center officers and Brooklyn Center Recreation staff responded to reports of a large group of juveniles gathering at Firehouse Park. Over 50 youth caused disturbances, and the park was closed. The group dispersed after Rec staff and officers issued dispersal orders. Later that evening, officers monitored additional large groups near 2900 Bass Lake Rd. Metro Transit Police Department officers assisted with helping teens leave the area, and some businesses temporarily locked their doors.

On Monday, from 3:30–8:30 PM, officers were again dispatched to Firehouse Park for fights, fireworks, and disturbances involving over 100 juveniles. Thank you to Hennepin County Sheriff's Office and Brooklyn Park, MN - Police Department for assisting. Some local businesses secured their doors due to property damage.

These “park takeover” events are trending across the metro and are quickly organized through social media, making them unpredictable.
