Happy Landscape Architecture month!

We are halfway through the semester with two months left to go. We want to thank all of our alumni and practitioners who visited before Spring Break to share their experiences with our students. Fouth year students are wrapping up their capstone courses and preparing for new adventures around the world and across the country. Third year students are hard at work studying and designing housing and construction systems. The second year studio recently presented their residential courtyard projects to their client, and first-year students are learning AutoCAD, SketchUp, and drawing skills. The students in our EPA-funded class presented their work to the Prairie Band Potawatomi near Topeka. Next, we will be starting a service project for a memorial in Iowa alongside our regularly scheduled classes. Stay tuned!

We're almost to our first set of deadlines for the semester. We've taken apart our sites, analyzed, explored, and studied. Now, we brainstorm the collective vision for our sites. We synthesize the pieces and parts. We design for harmonious connections and bountiful opportunities for our clients. The studios are alive with trace paper and chatter this time of year!

With a winter chill, we're back for week 2.
Each of our studios are in the early phases: brainstorming, diagramming, and abstractions. We keep ourselves happy on breaks with plenty of caffeine and cookies. Thank you Insomnia Cookies. Freshmen have begun in CAD; sophomores are practicing site layout and how to debate Jeremiah; Juniors are of course busy balancing sites of hundreds of acres but have not asked for an extension on deadlines, seniors continue job searches while they finish their two capstone courses.

We're looking forward to entering a number of competitions, client projects throughout South Dakota, and having a lot of fun (with cookies and some diet dew, of course!)

It's been a busy few weeks over here in Landscape Architecture! We had our midterm projects and quickly then began our final one or two projects. The Landscape Architecture Accreditation Board visited with their ROVE team to assess our curriculum. Alumni and practitioners came to our Open House and Zoom Call with the team, and we are so grateful to LAAB and our SDSU family. Just over 1 month left! Keep pushing team!
