🌾 Happy Labor Day from South Dakota Wheat! 🇺🇸

Today, we recognize the hard work and dedication of people across South Dakota - and especially the farmers and ranchers whose work doesn't always follow a Monday-through-Friday schedule.

From planting and spraying to harvest and everything in between, producing a wheat crop takes long days, perseverance, and a commitment to caring for the land.

This Labor Day, we're proud to celebrate the people who work every day to keep South Dakota agriculture - and our rural communities - growing strong.

Thank you to South Dakota's wheat producers for all you do! 🌾

As Executive Director Jonathan Kleinjan said, "$7 wheat is a lot more fun to plant than $5 wheat." Next week's Crop Progress and WASDE reports will provide any updated wheat yield estimates.

A legacy of hope, perseverance and impact. 🌾

On Saturday, Aug. 29, dedicated H.O.P.E. — A Helix of Resilience: The Life, Journey & Legacy of Edgar S. McFadden, honoring the wheat breeder whose Hope variety helped protect crops from rust and is credited with helping prevent starvation for more than 25 million people.

McFadden’s family joined the campus community for the dedication, celebrating a legacy that continues to shape wheat genetics and agriculture around the world more than a century later.

As we wait for the official photos from SDState - College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences about yesterday’s Edgar S. McFadden sculpture dedication, here’s a few photos from the event. It was a great day! That you to all who attended, shared McFadden’s story, and support wheat research at SDSU.

(Thanks to Brenda Forman for some of the photos.)
