Never leave a child in a vehicle unattended for any length of time. Rolling windows down or parking in the shade does little to change the interior temperature of a vehicle.

It’s not just the sun that can burn you. In the summer heat, everyday surfaces become burn hazards, especially for children and pets.

☀️ Playgrounds, metal slides, and pavement can reach 140°F+

🚗 Car seat buckles, door handles, and dashboards heat up quickly

👣 Protect little feet and paws – If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for them

The morning storms did not materialize, but multiple rounds of potentially severe thunderstorms are still expected through Thursday.

The timeframes of highest confidence for severe weather are this afternoon and Thursday afternoon. If any area misses out on the afternoon round, there is a higher chance for stronger evening storms.

The flooding threat increases tonight through Thursday as well. Keep up with the forecast and review safety plans. More info at https://www.weather.gov/mkx

💦 It's Water Safety Wednesday! 💦

TODAY'S FOCUS: having the right equipment!

Here are some commonly used water rescue tools and how they are used:

1️⃣ Life Jackets: Life jackets are wearable devices designed to provide buoyancy and keep a person afloat in the water. They should be worn by anyone participating in open water activities, especially those who are not strong swimmers.

2️⃣ Ring Buoys: A ring buoy is a ring-shaped floatation device that can be thrown to individuals in distress in the water, allowing them to hold on and stay afloat until help arrives.

3️⃣Throw Bags: Throw bags are rope bags with a floating buoy attached. They are used to quickly throw a rope to someone in distress in the water.

4️⃣ Rescue Tubes and Rescue Cans: Rescue tubes are long floats that rescuers can hold or give to the person in need of assistance. Rescue cans are similar but shaped like a horseshoe or a ring, allowing the victim to hold onto it while being pulled to safety.

5️⃣ Rescue Boards: Rescue boards provide a platform for rescuers to reach a person in distress or transport them to safety. They offer stability and control in rougher waters.

Remember, proper training and experience are essential for using water rescue equipment the right way.
