Jeep Recalls 1 Million Wranglers and Gladiators That May Catch Fire

According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recalled vehicles should be parked outside and away from other vehicles or structures.

Jeep issued the recall and fire risk warning for 1,076,999 Wranglers and Gladiators because they might catch on fire, even when the vehicle is parked and turned off.

According to the NHTSA paperwork, the recall stems from an issue within the electric hydraulic power steering pump, which may create an electrical connection with high resistance, which can, in turn, cause the wires to overheat and start a fire. According to the recall documents, a loss of power steering or a "Service Power Steering" message on the dashboard may indicate that the issue is present.
