From the Florida Democratic Party Oct. 22
HARRIS CAN WIN FLORIDA
With two weeks left in the election, all eyes are on Florida.
Florida Democrats are fired up and ready to elect Kamala Harris, Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, and Democrats up and down the ballot.
Democrats are outpacing Republicans in VBM ballots returned — nearly half of all ballots returned belong to Democrats.
Nearly 20% of ballots returned belong to NPAs, who we expect to break for Democrats at a 2:1 rate.
We’re getting out the vote through an incredible grassroots effort — over 150,000 volunteers, over 2 million doors knocked, and nearly 7 million calls made.
Over the next 15 days, Florida voters are going to break the supermajority in the Florida Legislature, legalize cannabis, protect reproductive rights, and show the country that Florida is still a purple state.`
AMENDMENT 3
The following talking points have been provided by Smart and Safe Florida:
Amendment 3 Saves Lives
Amendment 3 would create a legal and transparent marketplace where adult consumers will have access to safe, regulated ma*****na products.
These products will be third-party lab-tested for purity to ensure no hazardous materials like heavy metals, outlawed pesticides and herbicides, or “enhancers” like ketamine, m**h and fentanyl are included.
Like to***co and alcohol, these products will be required to be properly labeled so consumers can be fully informed of the product contents, strength and usage.
Amendment 3 will decriminalize simple possession
Amendment 3 will bring an end to adults being criminally prosecuted for simple possession of ma*****na in small quantities.
Amendment 3 creates a legal possession limit of three (3) ounces of ma*****na, with up to five grams in the form of concentrate. This will end the unjust prohibition of ma*****na that disproportionately affects people of color.
Black Americans are four times more likely than white American to be arrested for ma*****na possession despite similar rates of consumption.
Recreational Ma*****na is not a gateway drug
Several studies refute the idea that ma*****na consumption leads to use of hard drugs like co***ne and he**in.
Studies show legalizing ma*****na does not increase substance use disorder or use of illicit drugs, and therefore is not considered a “gateway drug.”
Since states began legalizing recreational adult use ma*****na, federal studies show a steady decline in teen ma*****na use.
Additionally, studies show individuals who use ma*****na use less to***co and alcohol, and when ma*****na is an available alternative opioid prescription rates and abuse decline.
Amendment 3 — Public Usage
After passage of Amendment 3, lawmakers will be responsible for regulating public usage.
The language of Amendment 3 and the Constitution itself both make it very clear that lawmakers have the authority to prevent people from smoking in public places or driving under the influence – as they have for to***co and alcohol products.
Amendment 3 will increase Florida’s Tax Revenue While Shrinking the Cost of Government
The economic benefits are three-fold:
Florida economists project tax revenues up to $431 million annually – funds that can be used as the legislature sees fit on programs like public safety and our schools.
Legalization will reduce costs to the criminal justice system, saving taxpayers tens of millions of dollars currently used to prosecute simple possession offenses.
A regulated ma*****na market will create tens of thousands of good jobs for Floridians.
AMENDMENT 4
The following talking points have been provided by Floridians Protecting Freedom:
Amendment 4 is simple – it’s about ending Florida’s extreme abortion ban.
Voting YES and passing Amendment 4 in November is critical to getting the government OUT of these sensitive and private healthcare decisions. No woman wants a politician, of any party, breathing down her neck in a doctor’s office. We need to pass Amendment 4.
Florida’s near-total abortion ban that is currently in effect is already harming women across our state. This ban takes effect before many patients even realize they are pregnant. What’s also alarming is this ban that is currently the law in Florida, doesn’t have any real exceptions if a woman is r***d or a victim of in**st, or if their health is at risk.
The right to an abortion is not a partisan issue, it is a healthcare issue
Decisions about abortion should be left to women – in consultation with their doctors, who take an oath to act in their patients’ best interests.
When it comes to som**hing as personal and complicated as pregnancy, politicians are never more qualified to make healthcare decisions than women and their doctors. And doctors should not have to risk going to prison just to treat the patient in front of them.
Don’t fall for the Government's distractions on Amendment 4
We have seen unprecedented and anti-democratic attacks against Amendment 4 from the State since the start. They’re throwing every dirty trick they can think of at us but all this is a distraction .
Our Government doesn’t want to talk about the abortion ban that is current law, so they’re trying to distract Floridians.
The Government is doing everything they can to suppress votes and the will of the people.
We must continue to educate Floridians on the importance of voting Yes on Amendment 4.
We need to vote yes on Amendment 4 to put these decisions back where they belong: with women and their doctors, not politicians.
