Custer County Sixpence

Custer County Sixpence We are a prenatal to three year old, in-home program. Our goal is to empower parents to develop environments that foster healthy development.

Decades of scientific research tells us that the first few years in a child's life is when the most rapid brain development occurs. In fact, a child’s brain undergoes an amazing period of development from birth to three—producing 700 new neural connections every second. Infants and toddlers are forming key relationships, developing trust, and exploring the world around them. It is absolutely cruci

al children have environments that foster healthy development and lay the building blocks for all future learning.

To everyone that I worked with through my position at Custer County Sixpence. I just want to thank you for allowing me into your life and to the lives of your children. I believe we meet people and touch their lives for a reason. I have enjoyed both learning from each of you and sharing knowledge with you. Whether I have spent years working with your family or just a short time, you all have touched a piece of my heart and I feel blessed to have known you! I hope that you will keep in touch and know that even though I am no longer at Sixpence, I am only a phone call away. For all co-workers past and present, and other professionals, thank you for everything. I have enjoyed working with all of you! Custer County Sixpence is a fantastic program and I will miss all of you!

Wearing a 𝙢𝙖𝙨𝙠 has become the norm. A mask is 𝙣𝙚𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙖𝙧𝙮 for everyone’s safety. However, wearing a mask makes it 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙙𝙞𝙛𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙪𝙡𝙩 to understand what is being said. The sound is muffled and unless you are wearing a mask with a clear panel, the cues from the lips 👄 are not available.

Here are 5 recommended tips for talking with a mask on.

Don’t forget to PAUSE.

𝙋𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙨: Take an extra pause between sentences/thoughts to make it easier to process each idea.

𝘼𝙨𝙠 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙧𝙚𝙥𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨: Don’t be afraid to ask for something to be repeated. A mask makes it more difficult to hear what is being said. It’s important for adults to practice this and for us to also teach children to do this. “𝘾𝙖𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙨𝙖𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣?", "𝘾𝙖𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙧𝙚𝙥𝙚𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩?"

𝙐𝙨𝙚 𝙜𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙥𝙤𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜: Use gestures and pointing to supplement spoken words. This will help to make the message clearer. Model this for children and practice this with them.

𝙎𝙢𝙞𝙡𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙖𝙠 𝙨𝙡𝙤𝙬𝙡𝙮: Even though your smile cannot be seen on your mouth, it can be seen with your eyes. People can also hear your smile in their voice. If you speak slower, it is also easier to understand.

𝙀𝙭𝙖𝙜𝙜𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙙𝙨: When you open your mouth to enunciate your words, this will also make your message easier to understand.
