This might make a few mad, but here is where I am at with the Libertarian Party...
When a new candidate of any party runs that person has to have a plan. I don't think that money is the end all be all of running for office, but you have to have some. You can't just run on a hope and a prayer. If you lack funding, you better get creative and willing to work harder than you ever have. I've been talking to a lot folks and not one libertarian has been to their door. I've never received a mailer from one. If you want us to get behind you, you need a following. You need to lead. I've already started to hear that libertarians can't win and it's a wasted vote to vote for them. Does anyone know why that is? Our libertarian party isn't stepping up to lead. They can pull a huge percentage in the general if they would put the work in. Libertarians typically have the advantage of not having to run against a ton of people. When that happens you have free reign to run for a year or better. The excuse of funding comes up a lot. In reality, it's hard for everyone to raise funds, party does not matter. If people believe in you, they will help you.
I would vote libertarian this election, but like most say, "they can't win". No one has put in the work to prove to me that they want the job.
Running for state senate I spent around $7,000 of my own money and had some donations. We put sweat equity in. My wife, me, my kids, and some friends knocked 2,000 doors in our district in about two months. 90% of the time it was just my family. I thought about how to win that race every waking second for months. If you want the job, if you want our vote, we aren't just going to give it to you because we don't like the other two options. You want me to vote third party, prove to me you can win or my vote is just another wasted vote.
