❄️ 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐖𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞❄️
With winter weather on the way this weekend, City of Broken Arrow crews are getting ready and will be working around the clock to keep Broken Arrow moving as safely as possible.
𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐰𝐬 have been pre-treating roads since Wednesday and will continue working once snow begins. 11,800 gallons of brine were used to treat roads over the past two days. When plowing starts, crews will clear snow from the middle of the street outward to open lanes as quickly as possible. Crews will operate 24 hours a day, on day and night shifts, to keep roads clear. Main roads, bridges, hills, and areas near hospitals and public safety facilities will be handled first, while neighborhood streets will follow as conditions allow. The Streets & Stormwater Department is prepared with:
🚚 Five ¾-ton pickups with plows and brine sprayers
🚛 13 dump trucks with plows and sanders
🧪 Two 2,000-gallon brine tanks mounted on trucks
🧂 2,700 tons of salt
💧 10,000 gallons of brine
🧹 79 plow blades
𝐅𝐥𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 will be staffed around the clock to keep equipment operating and ensure snowplows, police vehicles, fire trucks, and ambulances are back on the road as quickly as possible if repairs are needed.
There will be 𝐧𝐨 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 on Monday, January 26. All services will slide one day next week. Monday service to Tuesday. Tuesday service to Wednesday. Wednesday service to Thursday. Thursday service to Friday. Just a reminder that, due to the extreme temperatures and the anticipated poor condition of residential roadways, we will run only one route to collect both trash and recycling. If you do not want your recyclables to go to the landfill, please do not set out your blue recycling cart. Bags of trash placed outside the carts will not be picked up
𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐔𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 crews will be available for emergency water line repairs. Property owners are encouraged to let water flow through the line to help prevent freezing. This can generally be accomplished by letting an interior faucet drip slowly. Additional tips to consider:
🚪 Open cabinet doors under sinks on exterior walls to allow warm air to circulate.
🚰 Know where your water shutoff valve is in case a pipe bursts or needs to be turned off.
🔧 Remove hoses from exterior faucets and apply a protective covering.
📞 City staff remain available during this weather event—if you need your water turned off at the meter, call 918-259-8400.
The 𝐁𝐫𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐧 𝐀𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐰 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 will staff four additional units from Friday through Sunday, with the ability to add three more if needed, if conditions worsen, or call volume increases. Extra resources will be strategically positioned throughout the City of Broken Arrow to ensure a timely emergency response. All ambulances are equipped with either studded tires or four-wheel drive capabilities to improve safety and mobility on roadways. Residents are urged to stay indoors, if possible, as slips and falls are the most common emergency calls during winter weather events, and hazardous road conditions may delay response times and increase hospital transportation times.
𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 will be available for those in need. Central Park Community Center, located at 1500 S. Main St., will be open Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Harvest Church, located at 1814 S. Main St., will also be open Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Thank you for your patience and support as our crews work through the weather to keep things rolling as smoothly as possible. We will continue to share updates as conditions change. Stay warm and stay safe!
