Public Notice: Presentation of the Proposed 2026/2027 Annual Budget & Public Hearing
Town of Broadway, North Carolina
The Town of Broadway’s proposed 2026/2027 Annual Budget will be formally presented at the Town Board Meeting on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. Residents and interested parties are invited to review the recommended budget and participate in an upcoming public hearing.
Public Hearing Details
• Date: Tuesday, May 26, 2026
• Time: 6:00 PM
• Location: Council Chambers at Town Hall (103 N. Main Street, Broadway, NC)
Budget Summary & Key Highlights
General Fund & Property Tax Rate
The proposed budget includes a three-cent ($0.03) increase in the property tax rate. This adjustment is necessary to preserve current levels of town services and cover unavoidable operational cost increases, including:
• A 3% Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) for town employees.
• Ongoing increases in health insurance and employee benefits.
• Necessary maintenance for town parking lots.
• Projected increases in electricity rates.
• Increased cost for IT Support
• Increased cost for Code Enforcement
Please Note: This three-cent increase maintains existing operations but will not cover additional funding requests submitted by the police department, required ADA compliance for the town’s website, or any other outstanding capital improvements.
To avoid further tax increases while addressing critical equipment needs, the town will utilize its fund balance (savings) to replace two aging vehicles: one police department vehicle and one public works vehicle.
Enterprise Fund (Water & Wastewater Systems)
The Enterprise Fund operates as a self-sustaining entity. Following the recent completion of a comprehensive wastewater distribution system Capital Improvement Plan and assessment, a rate adjustment is required to properly maintain the system and fund vital long-term upgrades.
• The flat user fee will increase to $10.00.
• Usage rates will see an average increase of 10%.
Note: These utility rate increases reflect the direct recommendations of the recent wastewater assessment, which advised adjusting Broadway's utility rates to ensure long-term infrastructure stability.
