🚨 Community Outreach: Smoke Alarm Initiative 🚨
Over the last two days, members of Cape Fear Fire Department conducted Home Fire Safety Surveys and provide free smoke alarm installations throughout our community.
Although crews dedicated only about three hours to the initiative, members went door-to-door speaking with residents about home fire safety and the importance of working smoke alarms. Eleven households welcomed us into their homes, allowing us to assist approximately 30 residents directly.
During those visits, members checked 21 existing smoke alarms and found that 14 were not functioning properly. To help improve fire safety, crews installed 22 new smoke alarms at no cost to the residents.
These numbers highlight why programs like this are so important. Nearly two-thirds of the smoke alarms we checked were not working properly. A working smoke alarm is one of the simplest and most effective tools for protecting your family from fire. Smoke alarms provide an early warning when seconds matter most, giving occupants valuable time to escape and call 9-1-1.
Cape Fear Fire Department would like to thank the American Red Cross and NC OSFM for their partnership and continued commitment to making our communities safer.
If you, or someone you know in our community, would like a Home Fire Safety Survey, need smoke alarms installed, or simply want your existing alarms checked, please reach out to Cape Fear Fire Department. We would be happy to help keep your home and family protected.
