On this beautiful Sunday morning the BBFD took an opportunity to train with some of our out of Town Mutual Aid Partners. All too often the majority of our working relationships are at incident scenes. Training together gave us the knowledge to learn mutual aid’s equipment and tactics, as well as them learning ours. Today we trained on “Supplying the Aerial”. As a Department without an aerial (ladder truck) it is important for us to train how they operate.

Thank you to the Hazardville Fire District, The Ellington Volunteer Fire Department (CT), and all the personnel who turned out this morning to make themselves better. Neighbors helping neighbors.

Tomorrow is the day. 📅

The Broad Brook Fire Department budget vote is Tuesday, May 26th and it takes about 5 minutes.

The numbers tell the story:

📊 Calls rising: 820 → 855 → 907 — and 2026 is trending even higher
📉 Unfilled shifts reduced by 65% — from 28% down to 10%

Behind every one of those numbers is a person — a neighbor — who showed up.

That’s 4 firefighters on during the day, 2 overnight, multiple apparatus and crews responding across Broad Brook, supporting Warehouse Point, and answering mutual aid calls for our neighboring towns — fires, accidents, and medical emergencies at any time of the day or night.

The volunteers of this department don’t hesitate — they go. They give everything they have for this community, and they’re committed to being there when it matters most. Your vote tomorrow makes sure they have what they need to keep doing it.

When you call 911, someone answers. But before that call is even made, someone has already given up their evening, their weekend, or a night’s sleep to make sure they’re ready.

The volunteers of this department don’t hesitate — they go. They give everything they have for this community, and they’re committed to being there when it matters most.

With 907 calls in 2025 and 2026 already breaking monthly records, the demand on our staff and volunteers has never been greater. This budget helps make sure their commitment is backed by the resources it takes to get the job done.

Tomorrow we will make our case one final time. Please share this with a neighbor.

🇺🇸 Memorial Day | Broad Brook Fire Department 🇺🇸

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Their courage and dedication protect the freedoms we hold dear.

From our firehouse to your home — thank you to all who served, and to the families who carry their memory forward.

“All gave some. Some gave all.”

Wishing our community a safe and meaningful Memorial Day weekend.

The numbers show what this department has been working towards. Over the past three years the Broad Brook Fire Department has made significant progress filling firefighter shifts during the week:

📉 2023–24: 281 shifts unfilled (28%)
📉 2024–25: 200 shifts unfilled (20%)
📉 2025–26: 98 shifts unfilled (10%)

That’s a 65% reduction in uncovered shifts — meaning faster response times, better coverage, and safer operations for this community.

More covered shifts means when you call, we’re ready. This budget helps us keep going in the right direction.

📈 2026: Every month since January has already set a record.

That’s not an estimate. That’s real demand from this community — fires, accidents, and medical emergencies — and it’s trending higher every year.
