CROSSWALK ENFORCEMENT

This morning, Bristol Police officers conducted a four-hour crosswalk enforcement operation in downtown Bristol.

During the operation, a total of 14 vehicles were stopped for failing to properly yield to pedestrians in marked crosswalks.

Bristol has a busy and active downtown community, and keeping pedestrians safe is a top priority for the Bristol Police Department. We remind all motorists to remain alert, slow down, and always yield to pedestrians who have the right-of-way.

Pedestrians are also reminded to use marked crosswalks whenever possible and to remain alert when crossing the roadway.

We would also like to introduce our School Resource Officers, Greg Silvia at Mount Hope High School and Rachael Gaffney at our elementary schools, along with K9 Millie.

Our School Resource Officers are here to help keep our schools safe, support our students and staff, and build positive relationships throughout the school community.

Upcoming Gas Main Replacement Project on Hope Street in Bristol Beginning on or about September 8, 2026, Rhode Island Energy will begin replacing aging gas mains on Hope Street between Bradford Street and Washington Street. This important infrastructure investment will enhance the safety, reliability, and long-term performance of the natural gas system.

Work hours will be Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Rhode Island Energy is working closely with the Bristol Police Department to coordinate traffic detours, pedestrian crossings, and traffic management related to C**t Andrews Elementary School pick-up and drop-off activities.

Motorists should expect temporary lane restrictions and periodic delays during construction. Local businesses will remain open and accessible throughout the project. Thank you for your patience as we complete these important improvements for the Bristol community.

There is a significant power outage affecting the North end of the Town of Bristol.

Officers are actively assessing conditions throughout town and working to help ensure the safety of our residents. We are coordinating with our public safety partners as needed.

Rhode Island Energy is aware of the outage and crews are working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.

Residents are encouraged to:

Treat all dark traffic signals as a four-way stop.
Stay away from downed power lines and report them immediately.
Use generators safely and never operate them indoors or in enclosed spaces.
Check on elderly neighbors and those with medical needs.

🥎 TOURNAMENT CHAMPS! 🏆

This afternoon, members of the Bristol Police Department participated in the annual Tiverton Police National Night Out Softball Tournament, a great event and fundraiser benefiting the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

Our officers battled through a talented and hard-hitting Coventry Police team in the championship game, coming out on top 12-11 in the very last inning to claim the tournament title.

We are grateful to the Tiverton Police Department for inviting us to be part of such a wonderful event and for everything they do to bring our law enforcement community together for a great cause.

The trophy is officially making its way back to Bristol!

The Bristol Police Department and Town Administrator Steven Contente and his staff were once again overjoyed to participate in the annual end-of-summer cookout with our friends at the James L. Maher Center!

What a wonderful day spent at the Town Beach with great friends, good food, and plenty of smiles. We are grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a special event each year.
