Bridgeview's 2013 Christmas lights are ready! Thanks to my husband, all my kids and their friends for crawling up and down and over the house. We'll do the tree and the inside decorations after a Thanksgiving, but I have my pretties outside now!

Our decorating crew had to work for hours in the crazy snow and freezing temps to get the Christmas lights up.

Bridgeview is gearing up for All Hallow's Eve! We've turned our pretty pink flowering tree into a spooky Goblin Tree. Can you see Captain Bridgeview hanging from the Porch? He's followed us all over the country, through at least half a dozen states (although his name has clearly changed and he lost a leg somewhere along the line). Caven chose that big black spider and Leilea chose the tiny glow-in-the-dark ghost. Dan chose the skeletons and the Frankensteins on the pillars. Several other decorations adorn the house and yard beyond the scope of the camera, but this was my favorite pic even though you can't see all of the details. We also have some candy corn lights on the Porch, but I'll have to get a pic of those later, once it's dark, so you can see them better.

Bridgeview's dining room table has 8 chairs, but we often add a few chairs and stretch it to 11. Tonight we fit 13 people around the table for our triple birthday bash and feasted on spaghetti with a hearty meat and mushroom sauce, garlic bread, and a work-of-art salad. By the time we added all three birthday cakes and ice-cream, I think we had more food on that table than we've ever served, except probably Thanksgiving. There were half a dozen conversations all buzzing around at the same time, with people shouting from one end to other to join in on different topics. I thought the laughter would raise the roof. Since this is Bridgeview, the evening was capped with live instrumental and vocal music, which invariably turned to a sing-a-long. The drive way looked like a parking lot, with 9 cars lined up. I am overwhelmed with the blessings of having this large group of people who choose to share their lives with us and come together to laugh and celebrate and appreciate each other.

While we were away, we missed a number of important birthdays, so we had a birthday bash celebration dinner for all three tonight at Bridgeview and it was a perfect day. After a run and stretching/strengthening, breakfast followed by coffee on the Porch with our Oregon nieces, and several hours of scavenger-hunt-style grocery shopping, I got to spend several hours in the kitchen as Caro's prep chef as she baked the most glorious assortment of birthday cakes. John had a traditional marble cake with chocolate frosting, but Sela had a gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free pineapple upside cake, and Audrey had a towering masterpiece of deepest chocolate, whipped cream, and strawberries (all free of those same trouble foods). Each had custom-chosen birthday candles and between the three, I feared we would burn the house down. They were divine, though, and accompanied by ice-cream. Simply amazing!
