An exploding T-Rex. A stolen granola bar that leads to a tragedy in space. An interdimensional portal that fits in a backpack. A deeply sinister feeling evoked by a squished blueberry.

What do all of these things have in common? They're elements from stories written in Youth Writing Club!

Youth Writing Club meets every Monday and provides middle and high schoolers a chance to build their creative writing skills through collaborative writing, free writing, and discussions of technique. We focus on fiction, but writing in any genre is welcome!

All materials are provided. No writing experience required. Make your voice heard!

Recommended for ages 11-18. (We also have a Writing Group for adults that meets on Tuesdays at 6:15PM!)

For children ages 8-12 and a caring adult. Both the child and adult read the book each month, and then we meet together to discuss the book, do a craft, and most importantly, have dessert. For September we are reading Because of the Rabbit by Cynthia Lord. Copies of the book are available in the Children's Room. https://rogersfreelibrary.libcal.com/event/17154480?hs=a

Do you know a middle or high school student who wants to earn volunteer hours and make a change in the community?

Rogers Free Library's Teen Advisory Board meets TONIGHT at 6PM!

TAB members help plan and run programs, create displays, suggest books and media, share feedback, volunteer around the library, and bring new ideas to the table. Your input helps us create services and events that reflect what you and your peers actually want and need!

Our next meeting is tonight, 8/27 at 6PM. TAB will next meet at Rogers Free Library on Tuesday, September 15th at 6PM.

Last night we wrapped up our Youth Summer Robotics Program, where students put our brand-new robotic arms to the test, building their electromechanical knowledge and programming the arms to perform tasks like stacking objects, drawing shapes, and even laser cutting!

A huge thank you to our instructors from Robotics Innovation at Roger Williams University, as well as the Friends of the Rogers Free Library and the Rhode Island Department of Education - RIDE for jointly funding this program. Thank you for helping us bring STEM to the summer!

Eating nutritious food can help adults stave off heart disease, maintain energy levels, improve bone strength, and improve overall well-being, but staying healthy on a budget is hard.

On September 23rd at 11:00am, Visiting Nurse Home and Hospice’s Julie Kaull will be giving a presentation on how to create a healthy diet on a budget. With just a few smart strategies, it's possible to build authentic and nutritious meals without overspending.

Registration is required at the library's website.
