Update on the railroad;Long and short of it. The required Materials are taking longer to come In and until they do we are just waiting, sadly the Christmas train WILL NOT be running this year :( with no bridge it’s not possible but the upside is we should be running early next year!

It’s been a bit since y’all have heard from us! We are still here! We are having some critical work done and we should have an announcement in a few weeks about what’s going on and also the Christmas train rides! I’m sorry it’s been awhile but we are working hard behind the scenes!

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:

Veterans Memorial Railroad, Inc. sadly announces that we will not be able to hold the annual Christmas
event, “Polar Bear Express” this year due to repairs required for the trestle. It was hoped that the
repairs would have been completed in time to prepare for the 2024 Christmas event. Unfortunately,
this was not possible. As you may know, VMRR has been providing the Christmas train(s) since 2003 and
this year will be only the seccond time we have cancelled the event. We will continue to post updates after the
first of the new year on the progress of the repairs. We look forward to announcing the reopening of
the Railroad for families throughout the Panhandle to include Free Public Run Days, Special Reservations
as well as the 2025 “Polar Bear Express.”

To our friends and family with Veterans Memorial Railroad, we are truly sad to announce that Mr. Shane Maneth passed away this past week, he was truly a dedicated friend to those who knew him would always go out of his way to help others and lend to hand wherever needed his compassion and caring truly shown every time he was around and would eagerly lend a hand to help anybody who really wanted it, we will miss his presence greatly, and remember all the fantastic things that he brought between his work ethic and bringing out just the best and everybody around him, he will truly truly be missed

Greetings! Just to keep everyone in the loop! We've been surveying some infrastructure items around the railroad, and we've had to come to the conclusion, until we can rebuild our Trestle we cannot safely operate our trains :( We are as disappointed as you are! We're working diligently as possible to get this work completed as quickly and as safely as possible, if you have any questions/comments, please let us know! Send us a note here :)

We are monitoring a projected storm that’s supposed to come thru, we still plan to run until it starts to rain. Keep An eye on the page and we will announce any closures as soon as we are able!

Hey everyone!!! Just a quick note! This Saturday we are having this years first runday! So this Saturday from 11am to 3pm eastern standard time we will be out making smiles for miles!

This is a FREE event. Donations are greatly appreciated, the money goes to rail repairs, ballast, ties, gas for the trains, equipment restoration and a whole lot more!
