I'm an NRA certified instructor for the NRA's Basics of Pistol Shooting course. My experience with guns goes back to elementary school, having grown up with a family and environment where guns were a common recreational activity, sport, and means of getting food. I took a hunter’s safety course in Boy Scouts, but more recently, I realized my passion for training would fit well with my enjoyment of

firearms so I obtained the NRA Instructor certification. Speaking of training, I’ve been a professional trainer and instructional designer for many years, training Information Technology and soft skills in the corporate and hospital environments. I’m excited to be able to share my training experience and knowledge with you while we work together through the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting course.

You will need to download the USCCA app and create an account. Of course you will see information about signing up for a membership, but you do NOT need a PAID membership to create an account.

I think it's important to note that this is very broad, but when we're talking about defense, we're talking about being prepared for the CHANCE that something would happen.

One comment to the post where I found the article was:

*One MAJOR difference is, there is far LESS skill involved with using a fire extinguisher if you want to use it effectively. So if you have it and don't know how to use it properly, is it going to help?

I think the majority of people never even think they will get into loading or reloading their own ammo. I think it's probably a safe bet that even more people don't even realize it's an option.

But...

I strongly suggest that if you're shooting with someone who DOES reload their own ammo, don't shoot their ammo before witnessing THEM shoot it first, out of their own firearm. Then if you decide to try it, use THEIR firearm!

It might not seem like it makes a difference, but a lot of people may not realize how fast you need to be to make a series of decisions and actions before "the fight" is too close for a firearm to be a good idea.

I recommend looking up the "Tueller drill" to understand how far away might be too close. It might be a lot farther than you think.
