Today marks the first day of Black History Month! A time to honor, reflect, and celebrate the profound impact Black Americans have had (and continue to have) on our nation’s story. From culture and creativity to science, leadership, activism, and community-building; Black history is rich, resilient, and foundational.

This year is especially meaningful because 2026 marks the 100-year anniversary of Black History Month’s origins. What began in 1926 as Negro History Week, created by historian Carter G. Woodson, was a radical and necessary effort to ensure Black contributions were recognized, recorded, and taught. A century later, that mission remains just as vital.

As we move through this month, let’s go beyond celebration and lean into learning. Black history is not separate from American history, it is American history. We all have a role to play in uncovering the full truth, amplifying voices that were silenced, and making sure history is told completely and honestly.

📚✨ Call to action: Read, listen, ask questions, support Black educators and creators, and challenge narratives that leave stories out. Let’s commit to understanding our shared history; not just this month, but all year long.

Today we honor the extraordinary life and enduring legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., a man whose moral courage and visionary leadership helped transform the conscience of a nation. Rooted in faith and guided by a belief in nonviolence, Dr. King dedicated his life to confronting injustice and demanding equality for all people.

From his pivotal role in leading the Montgomery Bus Boycott, which helped dismantle segregation in public transportation, to his leadership in the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, Dr. King consistently demonstrated the power of collective action. It was there that he delivered his iconic I Have a Dream, calling the nation to live up to its founding promise of liberty and justice for all.

As the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, Dr. King was recognized globally for his commitment to nonviolent resistance and human dignity. His work was instrumental in the passage of landmark legislation, including the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965, achievements that reshaped American democracy and expanded opportunity for millions.

Though his life was tragically cut short, Dr. King’s message endures: that justice requires action, that service is a responsibility, and that love can be a powerful force for change. His legacy challenges each of us not only to remember his words, but to carry his work forward in our communities.

✨ Honor his legacy through action ✨
