Another local company highlight!

Before I started at Schneider in 2020, I knew very little about transportation or how the things we use every day make their way through the supply chain.

The truth is, it takes a lot of people working behind the scenes to keep everything moving. Without the team at Primary, along with all of the drivers, the goods and supplies we rely on every day wouldn’t get where they need to go.

Thank you to everyone at Primary for the important work you do and for being an important part of our local community! 👏

Our office crew traded spreadsheets for soup spoons on Saturday! 🍲

The team hit the De Pere Soup Walk and toured downtown on a perfect fall day, sampling some seriously tasty soups along the way. Proceeds from the event benefit the De Pere Food Pantry, which made every bowl even better.

Thank you to Definitely De Pere and all the local restaurants for putting on such a great event! 🍂

Due to the new pressurized sewer tie-in happening on 10/6 – 10/7 we will have to close Ridgeway Drive and Fairway Drive intersection. Traffic on PP will still be open under temporary stop and go lights. The intersection of Ridgeway needs to be closed to avoid head on traffic issues under one lane of traffic. This is scheduled to start 6am Tuesday 10/6 and be completed by the end of the day on Wednesday 10/7.

The Brillion School District has requested a change to the School Resource Officer (SRO) contract for the remainder of the school year, reducing the current commitment from 24 hours per week to 16 hours per week.

I understand the request, particularly given some of the other reductions the school district is facing. However, regardless of the requested reduction, I strongly support having SRO Captain TJ Bastian in our schools as much as possible throughout the school year. When it comes to the safety of our students and staff, I believe that is an investment you cannot put a price on.

I had the opportunity to serve as a School Resource Officer in the New Holstein School District for many years, from 2011–2020. During that time, I saw firsthand the many benefits an SRO provides, including:

1. Enhanced school safety
2. Prevention and early intervention
3. Positive relationships with students, families, parents, school staff, supporting agencies, and the community
4. Deterrence of criminal activity
5. Improved coordination with first responders
6. Education and training for students, staff, and the school community
7. Community engagement

Overall, the SRO position—and specifically Captain Bastian—serves as both a safety asset and a trusted resource for our students, staff, families, and the community.

The decision regarding the contract is not mine to make. However, I would like to see the SRO program continue to expand toward having coverage in the school Monday through Friday, regardless of which entity ultimately pays for those additional hours.

The Brillion School District is located directly within the City of Brillion and falls under the jurisdiction of the Brillion Police Department. Having a consistent law enforcement presence in our schools benefits not only the school district, but the entire Brillion community.

I believe maintaining and ultimately expanding the SRO program is an investment in the safety, security, and well-being of our schools and our community.

Good news #2 from last night’s Council meeting! 🚒

Brillion Fire Department leadership brought forward a request to replace Squad 81, which currently has a 2001 chassis and a 1984 body.

An excellent replacement opportunity was found through a local department for approximately $75,000. For comparison, purchasing a brand-new unit would cost taxpayers an estimated $750,000–$1 million.

The Fire Department has already secured approximately $50,000 in donations from various sources, bringing the estimated cost to the taxpayers down to just $25,000. That amount will be budgeted in the 2027 Capital Budget, and we anticipate taking ownership of the replacement unit by the end of this year.

This is an awesome win for the City of Brillion and a great opportunity to replace an outdated piece of emergency equipment while being responsible with taxpayer dollars.

A huge kudos to Fire Chief Wenzel and his team for researching the options, identifying this opportunity, securing donations, and putting together the request package for Council approval.

This was an excellent example of fiscally responsible decision-making while still making sure our firefighters have the equipment they need to serve our community. 🚒👏
