Scam Alert – Fraudulent Wire Instructions
Green Oak Charter Township is warning local businesses and residents of a scam involving fraudulent wire instruction sheets that have been altered to appear as though they came from the Township.
Scammers may use publicly available information, including Township Board packets and Planning & Zoning meeting materials, to identify businesses that have dealings with the Township. Do not rely on emailed or mailed wire instructions without independently verifying them.
If you receive wire instructions claiming to be from Green Oak Charter Township, please contact the appropriate Township office directly using a known phone number before sending any funds. The Township will not request that you change previously established payment or wire instructions solely through an email or other unverified communication. Our emails are not at USA.com
If you believe you have received a fraudulent document or may have fallen victim to this scam, please contact the Township and your financial institution immediately.

Good Morning from the Treasurer's office.

Reminder 2026 Summer Taxes are due Monday September 14th by close of business at 5:30pm. The Township does not accept post marks. We do have a drop box outside of township hall and any payments put in the drop box will be processed the next business day. Online payments can be made at www.greenoaktwp.com (additional 3rd party fees apply) Please do not mail your payment at this time, we will not receive it in time. Also as a reminder we are closed on Friday's. Our hours of operation are Monday-Thursday 7:30am-5:30pm.

POWER OUTAGE NOTICE – FONDA, ISLAND & BRIGGS LAKES
Due to last night’s storms, the entire Fonda, Island & Briggs Lakes area is currently without power.
As of 9:00 a.m., DTE has not provided an estimated time of restoration. If you have a grinder pump, please be aware that the pump will not operate while the power is out.
Please minimize your water usage until power is restored.
If the power remains off for a period of 24 hours, Highland Treatment will begin pumping down grinder pumps on Friday morning.
If you need to be placed on the pumping schedule, please call the Highland 24-hour phone line at 1-248-889-1922.

Scam of the Week:
Scammers often employ a fraud technique called "smishing" or text message phishing. How they do this is you receive a text message claiming to be from Apple Pay Account Services or any number of other legitimate businesses. The message states that someone has charged large dollar amount to your account. It provides a case number and phone number and warns that a second high dollar charge will be processed in a predetermined time frame unless you call the provided number immediately.

Although the message may appear legitimate, this is an example of smishing, or phishing conducted through text messages.
If you call the number provided, you will not reach legitimate customer support. Instead, cybercriminals posing as representatives of the business may attempt to obtain sensitive information, such as your name, credit card number, or the email address associated with your account.
Providing this information could allow criminals to gain access to your account, steal personal information, or commit financial fraud.
Remember: Scammers often use urgency and threats of financial loss to encourage people to act without verifying the message. Do not call phone numbers provided in suspicious text messages. Instead, independently verify the alert through the official website, your device settings, or a trusted customer-service number.
Follow these tips to avoid falling victim to a smishing scam:
• If you get a text about a big, unexpected charge, don't call the number in the message. Instead, navigate to your account via an app or the internet or to your bank's website directly to check your account.
• Never share your banking details or personal information with someone who contacts you unexpectedly, even if they claim to be from customer support.
• Cybercriminals often use deadlines and fear to rush you into making quick decisions. Always stop and think before you act! See less
