Recall Chris Ropeta

03/03/2026

We are disappointed to share that the court’s decision on Friday officially brings this recall effort to a close. The judge and the county clerk made statements that legislative changes need to be made regarding petitions in MI, but that the court did not have the authority to make those changes.

It feels like an unfair outcome and so many residents have made their wishes clear. Over 1800 registered, Tyrone voters signed the recall petition. The fact that residents want stability and a better future has not changed.

We implore you to stay vigilant, consider running for board and township positions yourselves, and certainly prepare to vote in 2028 for new, local Board members. Stability cannot come fast enough.

Thank you to everyone who contributed their time, money, and effort working hard for our community. The work isn’t done yet, it just shifts direction and keeps pushing forward.

Recall is not dead!

A brief has been filed in circuit court. The county’s attorney will be served soon and we await a court date.

We added the QR for donations below. Any contributions will help with legal fees and campaign materials to support voter turnout. It’s possible this matter could move to appeals or even MI Supreme Court. We need your support. Your signatures matter and so do your voices.

We are hopeful the outcome will give the people of Tyrone the opportunity to vote and we hope this case leads to better petition practices statewide.

Recall Ropeta Update: An appeal was filed in circuit court last week regarding the county clerk's determination that involved circulator addresses. A brief will be filed next and then we wait for the court to decide if there will be oral arguments.

When the brief is filed, we will share it publicly.

According to Elizabeth Hundley, clerk of Livingston County, the petition filed by Stabilize Tyrone Township on Tuesday, Dec. 30 failed to “comply with Michigan Election Law."

"The Court of Appeals has a published opinion concluding that 168.544c requires a signature gatherer to identify their city or township, not their postal address,” Hundley said. “The 158 sheets had circulators that included their postal address rather than their city or township. Hence, the circulator’s failure to comply with Michigan Election Law invalidated the signatures on those 158 recall petition sheets.”

So we "failed to comply with election law" that the clerk herself and the elections manager knew nothing about until it was conveniently "brought to their attention" the SAME week we filed our petition? Was every other petition filed at the county or townships across the state held to this standard since July of 2024 when the Court of Appeals handed down this decision? Every single packet of guidelines for a recall effort issued by the State Elections Bureau and the County Clerk's office, as well as the petition form iteself does NOT specify or require this. Not buying it.

A recall petition submitted by Stabilize Tyrone Township for the recall of Tyrone Township Trustee Chris Ropeta failed to meet requirements under Michigan law for a recall election to be called by the Livingston County Clerk’s Office. During the board meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 6, Ropeta said he was...

More fact checking because apparently the spin machine is running over time. Typical misinformation and loop holes. Is anyone actually surprised?

Recall Petition Filed with Livingston County Clerk: Dec 30th, 2025
172 pages
Over 1800 signatures collected, every single one of them obtained legally.

The county stopped counting at 1,164 signatures with 50 + pages remaining when case law was conveniently "brought to their attention" about how circulators certify petitions.

What the voters want for this community is clear. It's crystal clear.

The dispute is over how circulators wrote their "complete residential address" as Fenton, MI 48430 instead of Tyrone Township, MI 48430. It is NOT about signatures. Read the form below.

We will not stand for disinfrancising the voice of the voters. This matter will be appealed in court and we will post the filing publicly as soon as it is available.

December 30, 2025

Tyrone Township, MI — Stabilize Tyrone Township today submitted nearly 1,850 recall petition signatures to the Livingston County Clerk seeking the recall of Tyrone Township Trustee Chris Ropeta. The number submitted exceeds the approximately 1,608 valid signatures required under Michigan law.

The signatures were collected from Tyrone Township residents and registered voters within the legally authorized window and have now entered the county’s formal verification process.

The recall effort stems from Trustee Ropeta’s decision to file two lawsuits against Tyrone Township, both of which were dismissed by the Circuit Court. As a result of these actions, township taxpayers have already incurred more than $52,000 in legal defense costs.

Despite these costs, Trustee Ropeta has publicly stated he may pursue additional legal action against the township in the future, raising continued concerns about fiscal responsibility and accountability in our township.

Stabilize Tyrone Township believes residents deserve responsible governance and prudent stewardship of taxpayer funds. While the group respects the recall process and the right of voters to decide this matter at the ballot box, it also believes that voluntary resignation would spare the township from incurring additional dollars in avoidable election expenses.

The group will await the Livingston County Clerk’s verification of signatures. If the petition is certified, a special recall election is anticipated in Spring 2026.

NEXT STEPS:
1. Turn in petition sheets to the county clerk within 60 days of first signature. (Next week)

2. The County Clerk has up to 35 days to vet voter registration and signature authenticity.

3. IF the minimum of 1608 vetted signatures is approved, the county clerk will call a special election for May of 2026.

NOTE: If Ropeta wanted to save the community the cost of a special election, resignation would be welcomed before Tuesday 12/30. Once the petitions are filed, a special election will be necessary.

THANK YOU to everyone out there sending a strong message that this community wants something better, something stable for the future.
