Raptor Education Foundation

Raptor Education Foundation We are Colorado's first and oldest raptor sanctuary promoting environmental literacy using non-releasable raptors in unique interactive programs.

Consulting services are available to resolve issues of the intersection of the wild and the industrial world. Although environmental education is our core mission, we also provide environmental consulting to assist with wildlife matters, EIS surveys, and public relations to connect your company's brand with a real "green" organization. Our live raptors will create an impact that your clients and a

udiences won't soon forget. In 1999 REF created the first environmentally-themed license plate program for the State of Colorado. The "Colorado Respects Wildlife" plate features a bald eagle and is available exclusively to REF's members with a car registered in Colorado. Thousands spread the message of respect for wildlife as they drive their vehicles around our state and country, while supporting our educational mission at the same time. Join us and spread respect for wildlife! We are the only raptor education organization endorsed by Roger Tory Peterson. Our book, The Raptors of North America, features all of North America's raptor species and the newest edition is the best. It has been in print for 41 years and includes a foreword by Roger Tory Peterson. This is the best book to introduce anyone to America's raptor species, especially children.

Please, take a moment to today to stop, reflect and be grateful for all the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice to establish, protect and preserve the freedom we enjoy today...250 years, and counting.

And thank you to all our veterans and active duty personnel around the world, still standing watch today.

Gravel day! Snow last week, approaching 90 degrees this week: everyone here in Denver knows that the term "spring cleaning" can involve both ice removal and flower planting. Yesterday, we added two tons of pea gravel to our enclosures, courtesy of the generosity of members Mike and Diane McCubbin.

We've been really busy for the last several weeks preparing for a full slate of summer activities ahead of America's 250th birthday! Yesterday we vaccinated all 25 of our raptor ambassadors against West Nile virus. It was cool and cloudy, but the rain held off for the most part.

We also performed several exams on some of our senior raptors, including a look into the eyes of our oldest ambassador, our 36-year-old male bald eagle.

Condor-sized thank you to Dr. Alison Hazel, DVM for the house call!

A cold front and even some white flakes have settled into Denver's Front Range, and our mountains are receiving a healthy and desperately needed batch of snow.

Meanwhile, the business of hunting and breeding continues. Some bald eagle pairs have already begun incubating, while others, such as the Second Creek pair in Commerce City are clearly close to laying a first egg. Stay tuned for more updates!

Arriving at the Second Creek nesting area, Peter's attention was quickly captured by a beautiful male American kestrel balancing on a spindly, swaying branch...

Meet the newest member of our ambassador family, a three year-old male eastern screech owl!

This handsome fellow is captive bred and was generously donated to us from a falconry education school. He made his debut at the International Sportsmen's Expositions two weeks ago, and we're looking forward to introducing him in numerous classrooms and other appearances this spring.

A great compilation of four days of racing at Beaver Creek Mountain at the 2025 Birds of Prey World Cup. Thank you to the athletes, sponsors, crowds, musicians, families, kids and VOLUNTEERS which make this Colorado event a one-of-a-kind party!

Now it's time to get ready for the International Sportsmen's Expositions in a couple of weeks. Look for us at the Colorado Convention Center January 8th through 11th. Stay tuned for more info!🦅

We had a stellar start to the last day at the Birds of Prey World Cup! Each morning begins with the National Anthem, and today we were treated to a Blackhawk helicopter flyover by Col Stroud and his crew from HAATS (High Altitude Aviation Training Site) based in Gypsum, Colorado.

Congratulations once again to Marco Odermatt (SUI) who placed first in the grueling Giant Slalom competition, Alex Vinatzer (ITA) placing second and Henrik Kristoffersen (NOR) in third place.

It's been a heck of a ride...more images and videos coming soon! 🦅

What a difference 48 hours makes...but it doesn't matter as long as you're having fun! Shout out to all the incredibly hardworking folks at Beaver Creek Mountain and the Birds of Prey World Cup fans who stopped by to say hi and visit with us at the John and Karen Arnold Red Tail Finish Stadium this morning. ❄️🦅

We're all looking forward to an epic Giant Slalom tomorrow!

Today's conditions for the Super G were tough...fog shortened the race and the constant snow made visibility challenging.

Amazing performance by these three guys: Vicent Kriechmayr (AUT) in first place, Fredrik Moeller (NOR) in second, and Raphael Haaser (AUT) in third. Incredible effort, gentlemen! Thanks to FIS Alpine World Cup Tour!
