Today, we remember Richard. ❤️‍🩹

September 4 is a day that forever changed our lives. Today marks the day our son, Richard Lambert, died at just 26 years old.

Out of the deepest grief our family has ever known came a commitment: to make sure others walking through the loss of someone they love have a place to turn, a place where their grief is understood, their loved one is remembered, and they don't have to walk this journey alone.

Today, as we remember Richard, we also honor all those who have gone before us by helping care for the families who continue to carry their love and their grief.

Through our Matching Donation Campaign, our incredible community has already given $1,023, and with every gift being matched, that becomes $2,046 in support for grieving children, adults, and families. 💚

I have survived days, and now years, I once thought were impossible. I have laughed again without loving Richard any less. I have found meaningful moments of genuine joy without forgetting the pain or wishing he were here to share them with me.

Somewhere around the sixth year after losing Richard, I realized I had stopped simply existing and had begun learning how to truly live again. I had experienced glimpses of real laughter and happiness throughout those years, but living again meant something more. It meant intentionally choosing more of the things I knew could bring me joy. It meant allowing myself to embrace happiness when it came, without immediately feeling guilty for living a life Richard no longer had the opportunity to live.

I know Richard would want that for me. The truth is, I knew that from day one. But knowing what your loved one would want for you and actually being able to live it are two very different things.

IT’S NOT THAT EASY!!

It has taken YEARS and A LOT of WORK to get here. Happiness doesn’t always come naturally after profound loss. Sometimes, even now, happiness feels like something I have to intentionally plan for. Sometimes I have to make myself choose the things I know are good for me, remind myself that it’s okay to laugh, to enjoy my life, to make new memories, and to keep moving forward.

I can miss him desperately and still have a beautiful day. I can wish he were here and still laugh until my stomach hurts. I can grieve the life he didn’t get to live while continuing to try and live mine.

Grieving a grandparent can mean grieving so much more than a person ❤️‍🩹

It can mean missing the familiar stories, the sound of their voice, their advice, their hugs, family traditions, or simply knowing they were there.

A grandparent’s love often becomes woven into who we are. And when they are gone, their absence can be felt in both the big moments and the quiet, ordinary ones.

There is no timeline for missing someone who helped shape your life. Their love, lessons, and memories remain part of your story.

If you are grieving a grandparent today, give yourself permission to miss them, remember them, talk about them, and carry their love with you in whatever way feels meaningful.

❤️‍🩹 You did it. You made it through another day.

Some days feel a little lighter. Others feel impossibly heavy. And some days, simply making it to bedtime is an accomplishment.

No matter what today looked like, your mind and body have been carrying more than most people can see.

Tonight, give yourself permission to rest.

The dishes can wait.
The laundry can wait.
Tomorrow can wait.

For now, let yourself breathe. Close your eyes, and allow your body the opportunity to recover from another day of carrying grief.

We hope you sleep well tonight. Tomorrow is a new day, and we’ll be here to walk it with you. You’re not alone.
