My friend is a friend that the center has been able to count on. She has once again come through with a donation of the cutest squishmallows. These brighten up a difficult day for the kids who find themselves in the center.
Thank you for your continued support ❤️🔥

There is no offseason in this work. Forensic interviewers, CJC directors, and MDT members show up every month, in every room, for the children who are counting on someone to slow down long enough to actually listen.

I loved this tribute which describes why many of us are so invested in this work to protect children.

A tribute to forensic interviewers and CAC professionals sharing why they do this work, in their own words, and what the field deserves in return.

Today is the last day of Child Abuse Awareness month. So grateful for the opportunity to work with the kids who come through the center. Education helps them get here.

Abuse and neglect are not always visible. Learning the signs and staying informed can help communities respond early and effectively. Awareness is the first step toward prevention. Visit https://pcautah.org/ for resources to help children.

Charges of child sexual abuse are often dropped (if it is even reported at all) because there are a lot of assumptions (even with professionals and law enforcement) about how a victim should act.

***
In many cases, the child will appear very attached and bonded with their abuser - this is part of the grooming process which can just as easily deceive adults as well as children.

***

Regarding Larry Nassar and the USA gymnastics team, many commented wanting to know why these young women didn’t tell... Dr Nassar told them it was normal, that it was part of the procedure and they trusted him because everyone told them (and their parents) that he was the best. He was a master- of manipulating people with his authority.

***

Imagine being a child abused by the person who provides for your family or someone in a position to put your family in danger- do you tell and put others at risk, or do you sacrifice yourself to maintain the life you fear of losing? Many don’t realize how much responsibility children are willing to bear because they love their family.

**

Some children know that telling will only lead to them being punished and that the facade of normalcy is better than the truth of knowing the people who are supposed to protext you, won’t.

No two stories are alike and we could go on and on with all the reasons why. There is no one way that survivors cope with abuse, but there is one correct way to respond: with patience, compassion, and believing them.

Effects of p**n on emotions and thought

P**n alters young people’s brains.
The under-developed adolescent brain is
particularly susceptible to the content of p**n,
which can lead to dysfunctional stress responses
and poor executive function, including impairments
in judgment, memory, and emotional regulation.

P**n teaches sexism and objectification.
Adolescent boys who consume p**n are more likely
to value girls and women only for their appearance
and willingness to satisfy men’s desires, to believe
that it is more important for women to be pretty
than smart, and that women should obey men.

P**n can lead to depression.
Early use of p**n may trigger adolescent
depression and psychosomatic symptoms
(e.g., headache, irritability, trouble sleeping).
Unhappy adolescents may turn to p**n for “mood
management,” leading to further dysfunction and
negative effects on their mental health.
