JOB SUMMARY: This position is a Certified or Certifiable Police Officer, non-sworn Police Recruit, employed with benefits while attending Basic Police Academy (August-December, 2026). An Employed Police Recruit must successfully complete the MCOLES Basic Police Academy to be eligible for activation to a Police Officer position. The Recruit will be sponsored for their academy training; the Baroda-Lake Twp. will pay for all required tuition, course fees, equipment, and uniforms associated with Police Academy training.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a U.S. citizen and be 18 years or older at time of employment Must possess a valid Michigan Operators License No Felony convictions or a crime that questions your credibility. Ability to successfully complete all phases of the selection process. Must meet the minimum employment standards as published by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards. Must not have been released or discharged from the Armed Forces of the United States under dishonorable conditions. The minimum qualifications listed above are required for eligibility.

POLICE WAGE: $52,000 (police academy recruit) $68,640 annually for experienced officers. Competitive Benefit package. Wage increases yearly. Top out pay after 3 years. We hope that these patches spark conversations, foster understanding, and help create a more inclusive environment for everyone. If you notice the patches during your interactions with our officers this month, please feel free to ask about them—we are always happy to talk about the importance of autism awareness.

We want to bring to your attention a concerning trend we have observed. Several incidents of SCAM and FRAUD have been reported where individuals are being targeted and coerced into transferring money out of their bank accounts or purchasing gift cards.

The scammers often impersonate bank representatives and insist that you should not visit your bank due to a supposed teller involvement. Please be advised, under no circumstances should you provide any personal or banking information over the phone. These calls are fraudulent and are designed to steal your hard-earned money.

If you receive such suspicious calls, we urge you to contact your bank directly to verify the legitimacy of the request.

Stay vigilant and protect your personal information.

Michigan Gas Utilities, law enforcement team up to make scam warning signs go viral

Scammers have more tools than ever to steal your hard-earned cash. That’s why Michigan Gas Utilities is teaming up with police and sheriff’s departments across southern and western Michigan to make the warning signs of utility scams go viral on social media.

These scams are real. MGU customers have lost hundreds of dollars to scammers so far this year.

This time of year, con artists are trying to prey on fear and get you to act quickly without thinking twice. Don’t become their next victim.

Join law enforcement in sharing these red flags on Facebook and X:

Scammers may:

Pretend to be from MGU by spoofing caller ID to display “Michigan Gas Utilities” or by using a recording that sounds legitimate.
Threaten to turn off your energy in a short amount of time.
Demand immediate payment often with a prepaid debit card, third-party app like Zelle or Venmo, or an unusual payment method such as cryptocurrency.
Show up at your door and refuse to show ID.
What else you can do
If you think a scammer is targeting you, hang up or close the door. It’s not rude; it’s safe.

Call MGU at 800-401-6402 if you have questions about a call, email or text you’ve received. Contact your local law enforcement if you’ve fallen victim to a scam.

Dear Community Members,

We are delighted to share that the Baroda-Lake Twp. Police Department had the pleasure of attending several wonderful events recently. We were present at the trunk or treat at F.C. Reed Middle School, enjoyed the Baroda Twp trail and treat at Baroda Twp park, and also had a great time at the trunk or treat hosted by Woodland Shores Baptist Church.

It was heartwarming to see the community come together, and we truly enjoyed interacting with everyone who attended. Your participation and enthusiasm made these events a resounding success. We appreciate the opportunity to be part of such engaging and fun-filled activities, and we look forward to many more in the future.
