Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department - Vermont

Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department - Vermont Bridgewater is 100% all volunteer department serving Bridgewater since 1951. We now have better training, and upgraded equipment. miles.

The Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department was started in 1951, with just one homemade pumper truck. We have come a long ways since then now with 2 engines, a tanker, utility truck, and a UTV. The department responds to about 50 calls a year protecting around 970 full time residents within 50 sq. We also respond to surrounding towns when they need additional resources. Our calls range from Building

fires, car accidents, wild land fires, Haz-mat incidents, alarm activations, carbon monoxide issues, water rescue, off road rescue and various other calls. Members meet every Monday night and perform maintenance on the apparatus and equipment, trainings, meetings, and planning and preparing for fund raisers. If you would like to become a member of this department stop by on a Monday night at the station around 6:30 and one of the members would be happy to talk with you.

Last nights training consisted of pump operations. Engine 1 was the supply engine drafting from a porta tank. A 4” line was run from engine 1 to supply engine 2, which was then used to flow water back to the porta tank.

At approximately 07:07AM on Monday March 09, 2026 Bridgewater Fire, Bridgewater Fast Squad, and Woodstock ambulance was dispatched to 6873 US Route 4 for a vehicle that had gone off the road and rolled into the Ottaquechee river. Initial reports were that the occupant was out of the vehicle but still in the water. Bridgewater Fire requested Woodstock Fire to respond with their cold water equipment.
First arriving units found that the sole occupant of the vehicle had self extricated from their vehicle and made it out of the water and were in a passer by vehicle getting warm.

Woodstock Ambulance and Bridgewater Fast Squad evaluated the driver who refused transport. Bridgewater Fire was assisted by Killington Fire for their ladder to gain access to the vehicle. The vehicle was recovered by Sabil and Sons Towing.

Thank you to all involved and also Bridgewater highway who sanded the roadway prior to AOT arrival as this area of Route 4 was black ice.
