There’s just something about a Friday night football game. 🏈 🖤🤍

It’s so much more than football. It’s watching our kids find their place and have a chance to shine: football players, cheerleaders, marching band, color guard, athletic trainers, and so many others who make these nights happen.

And it’s the families, friends, grandparents, and neighbors filling the stands to support them. Coaches and volunteers who help make it all happen.

That’s what I love about high school sports. It brings our community together and gives kids a place to belong, work hard, make memories, and be proud of what they’ve accomplished.

There’s just nothing quite like Friday night lights and watching our community come together for our kids.

Happy Independence Day!!! 🇺🇸

Special thank you to the National Society Daughter’s of the American Revolution for their program today at SHS celebrating 250 years of America! They sponsored a 250 Celebration Contest and awarded cash prizes to the winners today. The program, with remarks from Thomas Jefferson, General Lafayette, and Martha Washington, was excellent in addition to a beautiful performance by the Shenandoah Choral Society.

Our community has a rich history, and its future is bright because of our students.

Join us on Saturday, July 4, for We the People of the Valley, a free community celebration honoring the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. This special event brings together Rockingham County Public Schools, the Massanutton Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Rocktown History, VA250, and many incredible community partners to celebrate our shared history and the next generation of engaged citizens.

We're especially proud to recognize the outstanding RCPS students who participated in this year's We the People of the Valley contest.

Congratulations to these outstanding students who were recognized this evening at James Madison University for earning 2nd place in the region during the Spring Session of The Stock Market Game™! 📈👏

JMU Center for Economic Education runs regional and state-level divisions of The Stock Market Game™, a simulation that gives students $100,000 in virtual cash to invest in stocks, bonds, and mutual funds while teaching investing principles and financial literacy.

🌎🏆 HUGE congratulations to our McGaheysville Elementary School students for being named the 2026 WORLD CHAMPIONS in the Elementary Solar Division at the KidWind Competition in Wisconsin! ☀️⚡🎉

These students represented McGaheysville Elementary, Rockingham County, and our entire community with creativity, teamwork, innovation, and determination. Their hard work and passion for renewable energy truly paid off on the world stage!

Last night, the board unanimously voted to reappoint our Superintendent, Dr. Larry Shifflett, to a new four-year contract. Dr. Shifflett is a servant leader who models integrity in every aspect of his work. He has been a steadfast and visionary leader for Rockingham County Public Schools, guiding the division with a clear focus on advancing student outcomes, supporting employees, and strengthening relationships across Rockingham County Public Schools. The Board values his leadership and unwavering commitment to our students, staff, families, and community. We are pleased to continue this partnership and look forward to the years ahead with great confidence and anticipation.
